Irrelevant. The point is, none of that mattered then because no one knew.

I thought it then and Marg has done nothing since to make me think otherwise. I think he is solid and if we had to put a number on it talent wise I would say he is a 7 while baldi is like a 6 .
Whatever. The difference is, one of them was the longest reigning champ in the division, the other was a flash in the pan.

I agree but with that said i dont hold the WBO belt in a positive light. If you notice the weakest champ per division usually holds the WBO. So defending that title for years doesnt do much for me. I felt the same way about JoeCal when he was defending the WBO belt for years. It just didnt mean that much.

I agree somewhat, Margarito was the better opponent, but Baldomir was the same money for a better recognized fighter, at the time Baldomir was being hyped by HBO as the cinderella man and a lot fo people thought Mayweather had dogded him already. Margarito was the better opponent and much more important fight, but Baldomir made the most business sense.

Not to mention, and if i recall correctly, Arum was trying to **** Mayweather on that deal.

Yeah except Margarito wasn't the weakest champ in the division. Why are we even arguing this? Ok real talk - how well were you following the 147lb division during the turn of the century?

Hey IMDAZED i think you are one of the better posters here man. You usually make great points. I dont know why you getting toughy about Marg of all people. But i get you, Marg was the longest reigning champ and he deserved his shot but what irked me about that situation is that all of a sudden Floyd had to be the one to give him a shot. You said it yourself he was the longest reigning champ but nobody was calling for Judah to fight him or spinks before him. I just found it weird that when floyd didnt fight him then floyd was a duck. But what about all the other champs that came and went that never gave tony a shot. Alot of people ducked tony. He should of gotten a shot long before floyd came there you feel me.

Yes, your right he should've. It doesn't absolve those before Floyd, and it doesn't absolve Floyd either. Look, I'm not saying Floyd ducked him - I'm pretty sure every move he makes is fiscal-driven. But I just want to quell the argument that Baldomir was a tougher opponent or whatever the ****.

Thanks for the kind words - good debate.

Well i remember Mayorga holding 2 belts, spink held the Ibf and marg had the wbo. Out of those 3 he was the weakest or lets say the least marketable. Should he have gotten his shot to be the man earlier? Yes, I said that back then. But that dont change the fact that talent wise he wasnt the best.

oh no. I dont think baldo is a tougher fight. hell no. I was just stating talent wise they are almost identical. But we all know talent alone dont win fights. All the intangibles are in tonys favor and he would of definetly been a toghter fight no doubt.

Don King refused to agree to HBO's demands of a unification with Margarito (who the hell wanted to see Mayorga-Spinks over Mayorga-Margarito??) and kept putting in his champs against his other fighters. And so Margarito was frozen out. That's all.
