Wow, I just boxrec'd Alvarez and noticed he already has 34 pro fights under his belt and he's only freaking 19! That's impressive, no matter what the level of competition is. And his KO percentage is pretty damn good as well! (74%). I've only seen a few of his fights but will be definitely (Lennox) watching all future ones...

Hype?? Stop smocking crack, idiot. He´s 19 and has a better record than many champs, and remember " Mexican tomato cans " can fight better than many recognized fighters. You firgot to mention Cotto. Saul in a couple of fights will be ready for his boricuan ass.

puncher. He should consider hiring floyd sr as his trainer.

Lanardo Tyner beat Antwone Smith on Friday, and Alvarez happened to soundly beat Tyner, so maybe you should see that Alvarez can't even legally drink in the U.S. and has a hell of an awesome future ahead of him despite hardly any amateur experience. You think Pacquiao, Cotto, Martirosyan haven't fought club fighters with lots of fights, but losing records to gain experience. And just to throw it out there, JCC Jr. struggled with Cuello while Alvarez made it look pro. Quit drinkin' that haterade balltapper.
I know that most top 10 & champs & exchamps fighters have fought journeyman caliber fighters at 1 time or another, BUT NOT 95% OF THE TIME!!! El "Canelo" Alvarez has 34 fights(& HE SAY'S IT'S ACTUALLY MORE, LIKE IN THE 40'S) & he's still fighting 'TOMATO CANS" & the only fighter that's not a BUM is José Cotto(Miguel Cotto's brother) who Alvarez had a REACH, HEIGHT & WEIGHT ADVANTAGE(Cotto was fighting 3 category's above his natural weight) & with all those advantages Alvarez DID NOT IMPRESS!!! Alvarez almost GOT KO'D IN 1ST ROUND, & even thou he was winning the rest of the rounds Cotto was hanging in with him & to top it off the fight was STOPPED PREMATURELY!! & don't give Me that "hardly no amature experience" as an excuse for him to keep KILLING TOMATO CANS, cause with 30 or 40 fights he should AT LEAST be fighting top contenders or should have fought for a world title already..Look at Wifredo Vazquez jr, Vazquez had NO AMATURE EXPERIENCE AT ALL!!! He learned the game FIGHTING AS A PRO & with ONLY 20 FIGHTS, he's already a WORLD CHAMPION & ALREADY HAS 1 DEFENCE AGAINST THE #1 CONTENDER!!!!! I"m not hating, I'm just saying it how it is!!This "CANELO" is WAY OVERRATED he's ALL HYPE & I'm not the only 1 saying this, go to noti fight(a spanish boxing site from Mexico) & you'll se that his own peeps are saying he's overrated & that he's a creation being hyped up by "Televisa"(a Mexican Network)....& he's being heavily critizised for not fightng better opposition..

I would definitely say Nacho. Alvarez, despite being so young, is actually quite a patient fighter most the time, and that would fit well with Nacho's teaching style.

notice he said 'many', not 'most'. And its true. fighters with ugly records and unknown names have still been able to produce an upset, and in many cases give quality fighters tougher fights than high level competition. examples of this on Alvarez's record:

Euri Gonzalez-recently beat Cosme Rivera, former title challenger and someone who dropped Berto in the past.
Raul Pinzon-dropped Ricardo Torres(former WBO champ) three times and was leading the fight before Torres scored a comeback KO in the last round.
Jeferson Goncalo-Alvarez was the only one to KO him, and Goncalo has faced Hassan N'Jikam(#2 rated middleweight by boxrec) and Kheron Gevor(#7 rated middleweight by boxrec, #5 rated by Ring magazine)
Lanardo Tyner-Recently upset prospect Antwone Smith by TKO in the 9th
Miguel Vasquez-Went on to beat Breidas Prescott(the guy that KOed Khan)

so yea, just because he has a lot of 'unknowns' on his record, they really werent that bad of fighters.
