At the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, veteran Lanardo Tyner (24-3, 15KOs) upset Antwone Smith (18-2, 10KOs) with a ninth round stoppage. Smith got off to a very good start in the early rounds but he was being worn down as the fight played out. Smith's right eye was nearly swollen shut by the eight round. Tyner hit him with some vicious body shots to get him in trouble in the eight round. Smith was able to hold on, but Tyner went back to work in the ninth with more body shots to send Smith down for the first time in his career. Smith made it up but told the referee he was unable to continue.
