Pacquiao Admits Catchweight Is Crucial To Beating Cotto

Whether it would have been meaningful in the fight is speculation. But claiming that trying to make weight is not physically demanding is absolutely ******. When you have reached rock bottom and just can't go anymore, even one more pound is too much to ask. It affects your strength and endurance. Cotto claims that the weight wasn't a problem, but at the end of the day he had to make weight. He does not naturally walk around at 145. Granted he probably did not have to drop 10-15 pounds in a matter of days, but he did have to lose a good amount of weight prior to the fight. That Pacquiao did not have to suffer through the same torture was definitely an advantage for him, it was not an accident that Roach asked for the extra 2 pounds.
Cotto did not even reach the junior middle weight limit for his fight with foreman, meaning he's probably a little too small for the division, but at 150 he probably feels just fine. If he fights Pacquiao at 150, it should really be viewed as the best weight match-up for both. Cotto should be fresh and not looked so gassed by the 4th round this time...or so one hopes.
It's still bull**** thought that Pacquiao continues to ask for a catch weight. The belt shouldn't be on the line.Comment

The second time around hell yeah. Cotto already got money & exposure. If margarito cant fight in the US and if Pac cant fight Floyd, Cotto actually DOES have some negotiating power of his own since Pac really aint got no where else to go. All cotto has to say, "no catweight and we can fight" and pac would be forced to do it, or fight some lesser named opponentComment

the weight is no doubt difficult... but it becomes rather irrelevant upon reviewing the fight. Cotto is there to be hit, he isn't elusive, he fights in the pocket... and he simply didnt have the durability nor defensive prowess to cope with Pac's output. Any weight... it doesnt matter. Pac wins this fight 10/10.Comment
