what does that have to do with being or not being a country?
taken directly from wikipedia:
"As Puerto Rico is not an independent country, it hosts no embassies."
"Puerto Rico is an "unincorporated territory" of the United States which according to the U.S. Supreme Court's Insular Cases is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States, but not a part of the United States."
so tell me: according to the US Supreme Court, we are not part of the US. according to the US Supreme Court, we are not an independent country
i'm dying to see your answer to this. just try to say the US Supreme Court knows **** about this topicLast edited by fdotorres; 07-07-2010, 10:54 PM.Comment

Seriously, you might want to reread what you just cut/pasted from Wikipedia.what does that have to do with being or not being a country?

explain to me how are part of the US and how aren't we a country
"Puerto Rico is an "unincorporated territory" of the United States which according to the U.S. Supreme Court's Insular Cases is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States"
What part of "of the US" and "beloning to the US" do you not understand?
Tell me this, who is the Chief of State of PR? The US president.
"Not part of the United State" as in, it's NOT a state, it's a commonwealth.Comment

but you said PR is not a country. the supreme court says PR is a dependent countrySeriously, you might want to reread what you just cut/pasted from Wikipedia.
"Puerto Rico is an "unincorporated territory" of the United States which according to the U.S. Supreme Court's Insular Cases is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States"

they also say that PR is an unincorporated territory. they also say we're not a part of the US
i can't believe that you're trying to go against what the supreme court of the united states said. here it is again:
"Puerto Rico is an "unincorporated territory" of the United States which according to the U.S. Supreme Court's Insular Cases is "a territory appurtenant and belonging to the United States, but not a part of the United States."
the supreme court said it, not me. it's not my fault that it defined PR as a dependent country that is not part of the US
the 3 years difference of knowledge on this matter is starting to show. i mean, you're literally trying to give a new meaning to what the freaking supreme court of the US saidComment

no it isn't, we have been a country since spain said so in 1897. when we moved to being a US territory, that didn't change.
we are not a free country. we are not an independent country. we are an unincorporated territory since 500 years ago
we do have a messed up political status here, but that doesn't change the fact that we're still a country. the supreme court of spain said so, and so did the supreme court of the US
it's understandable that people outside of PR (and even IN PR) don't have this cleared up, but that doesn't change anythingComment
