Kalle Sauerland has told the Telegraph that David Haye turned down a fight with Wladimir Klitschko due to the Ukrainian's financial demands.
Haye, Britain's WBA heavyweight champion, had been in talks with the IBF and WBO title holder ahead of a possible unification fight later this year.
Both fighters have continued to call each other out after Haye was forced to withdraw from last year's proposed fight between the pair with a back injury.
A big-money match-up in 2010 appeared inevitable but promoter Sauerland, who has a stake in Haye's next two fights after the Briton defeated Nicolai Valuev for the title, insists the former cruiserweight champion still wants the fight.
"David is keen on fighting one of the Klitschko brothers," he told the British newspaper. "But the devil is in the financial details.
"There are multiple parties with a financial stake in Haye's fights. We're just one of those parties. Haye has become a national superstar in the UK, and thus the conditions have changed.
"Haye earns as much money in the UK as the Klitschkos earn in Germany. Therefore, that makes reaching a deal much more difficult. We have to insist on a sensible financial agreement."
Klitschko has since signed to fight the IBF's mandatory challengery Alexander Povetkin on September 18, while Haye has yet to reveal his next opponent.
