The difference is that Manny has the brains and dicipline to fight without Roach. Roger Mayweather and "lil Floyd" are the like the blind leading the blind. Both would rather throw money in pubs or strangle women in their free time. This notion of Roger being a great trainer is pure rubbish.

Similar situation, head trainer unavailable, one situation obviously tougher to deal with (death) but still overcame to a degree.

tyson didn't need cus to help him with boxing. tyson needed cus to help him cope with the fame and stardom. cus was tyson's spiritual and moral anchor. without him, tyson was lost. that's what tyson needed cus for. tyson was well schooled already.
