Comments Thread For: Briggs: I Have The Power To Knock Danny Green Out

Returning cruiserweight Paul Briggs is making a plan to test the chin of Danny Green like no other opponent has done in the past. Briggs (26-3, 18 KOs) returns after a three year retirement on July 21 to challenge IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green (29-3, 26 KOs) at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia.

I became a fan of Paul Briggs after watching his two epic wars with Tomasz Adamek. I hope he beats the **** out of Green.

      WAR Briggs!!!

I was fortunate enough to be able to sit ringside at both of those wars.

Those were two great fights that overshadowed the main events.

      Viva Paul Briggs!

This is going to be a good fight with alot of hard leather landed thats for sure.

I kind of like Danny Green I know he gets alot heat for beating a shot Roy but if you were him you wouldn't have turned down the chance.

Green isn't elite by any means but is still a good fighter and has alot of power to.

I'm definitely watching this one and hoping Briggs goes well. That said, something about it is wrong. Reading his recent interviews Briggs seems as anxious to assure himself he's ready as he does the journalists and readers. Lots of positive reinforcement the three years off won't matter, nor the murky rumours pertaining to health problems and so forth.

Green's penchant for taking easy options of late also looms large in the background as this fight nears. Briggs has never quite left the scene since he's worked as a commentator for Main Event, and a trainer in the local Contender series. Local fight fans fondly remember the Adamek wars. Briggs retains name recognition, but not for fighting. That works perfectly for Green, who isn't about to sit while Briggs re-establishes his boxing career, but has a popular opponent nonetheless. If a tune-up went poorly, the whole deal sinks. Hence the rush to get this fight on (it was announced five weeks ago).

You can argue Green's comeback hasn't given him much ring action. 11 rounds in 15 months over four fights. You never know with this sport, but something's telling me I'm dreaming if I think the same guy who took Adamek to the very brink twice is showing up two weeks from now. The two men are friends and I think Green will carry him deep into the fight if Briggs is badly out of form.

I will love it. Big time. But I will not get my hopes up. Green has a solid chin.
