Vitali Klitschko Expected To Fight Calvin Brock Next E-mail this to a friend Printable version

    By Rick Reeno

It was reported by Baltimore Sun staff writer Lem Satterfield that WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is expected to finalize a contract to face undefeated heavyweight prospect Calvin Brock in September. The bout will be held in Atlantic City and televised by HBO.

The decision by Klitschko has shocked number one contender Hasim Rahman, who faces Monte Barret in a WBC elimination bout on a Don King promoted pay per view on August 13. WBC president Jose Sulaiman is expected to hold a vote with the board of govenors to make a decision as to the status of the WBC heavyweight title. If the board votes for Klitschko to face the winner of Barrett-Rahman, he would be stripped of the title if he went forward with a potential bout with Brock.

"I believe that from the beginning I made it clear to the WBC which title I was going after. I was ranked No. 1 by the WBO, the IBF and the WBA, and and I chose to go after Vitali Klitschko. I expect to receive their full support, but I'm not fixated on Vitali Klitschko. I expect to crowned WBC champion with or without him." said Rahman to the paper.

OK, Klitschko fans - what happens if he gives up his belt? Is he a martyr, or do you lose respect for him for defying the organization he is champion of?

VK will get stripped and wlad will beat Byrd...the brothers are destined to never hold titles at the same time.

Vitally is a ****** if he is willing to lose his belt...Why is Rahman so scary?

Also why does Brock want this fight?

I usually have no problem when a fighter says **** off to the alphabet groups and is willing to lose his title to fight the best available opponet, ala Barerra or Tszyu etc. But in this case VK is going to lose his title because he wants to fight a green prospect over a the former undisputed champion?

Just dont get it, we will see how things play out.

Don King will hold all 4 belts on Sept. 24, then.

Maybe Vitali thinks Krasniqi will upset Brewster and they can have a title fight in Germany???

...Who the **** knows? Vitali is turning out to be one hard headed ****er when it comes to dealing with King. Obviously he has a plan.

He is doing this for money reasons. He will still be considered as the true champ, Ring Magazine, HBO, and ESPN, so he wants the money. If he fights Rahman as the interim champ he gets a 45/55 split instead of the 70/30 he wants as the champ. Also if he fights the interim champ there will be no rematch clause, he is being very smart here.

I find it hard to believe that 70/30 vs. Brock on free TV will get him more than 55/45 with Barrett/Rahman on a PPV with Don King involved...

A lot of people don't view him as the true champion now because of the quality of his opposition - this will lose him some support.

I don't think there is a clear-cut champion in the division. Perhaps he has an inflated view of his market value...

Yep if this goes through I will most certainly lose respect for Vitali.

It's not so much the inactivity, it's the blatant fear he seems to show towards Rahman. He has called out every heavyweight except for Rahman, Chris Byrd and Ruiz.
