how is it anyone's problem except the fighters? Top level atheletes are paid millions and millions of dollars, the kind of money that people on average salary wouldnt even dream of. how an athlete handles his money is his own bussiness.
no one is responsible for mike tyson being bankrupt except for mike himself.
for instance take floyd mayweather who's ****** rich by our standards, if he were to go broke tomorrow you would expect fans to babysit him and give him hand outs?
i dont ****ing think soComment

I wont feel bad for Floyd as I don't believe there is a government witch hunt to get him. The same can not be said about what the IRS did to Joe Louis. Times are different now, not perfect but much better. Still, that has nothing to do with how Joe was mistreated.Comment

Your missing the point entirely.... I never said that it is the responsibility of fans to take care of fighters. I am merely stating that the fighters should take care of his money first and foremost and make his money because the fans will not even if you do live at service to them. The way you write about it Fighters don't deserve to make the money they make. Fighters work their ass off outside the ring and put their health at risk inside the ring for entertainment. They've earned their keep.how is it anyone's problem except the fighters? if you're responding to me then you would know i did not relate it to louis as it was a different situation.I wont feel bad for Floyd as I don't believe there is a government witch hunt to get him. The same can not be said about what the IRS did to Joe Louis. Times are different now, not perfect but much better. Still, that has nothing to do with how Joe was mistreated.
im replying to OP and another poster who's blaming the system for boxers ending up broke. joe louis got a raw deal
but
other fighters are spoiled and should not be brought into this. they are also making the kinds of money louis never dreamed ofComment

Yeah they're not on a witch hunt to get him because he has the money to pay them lolI wont feel bad for Floyd as I don't believe there is a government witch hunt to get him. i never said they dont deserve to make money they make, believe me if it was up to me i wish they'd make double what they make now.Your missing the point entirely.... and yes fighters should manage their own money with care, but what happens to their money is not in any relation to the fan.Comment

What they did to Joe was charge him exorbitant interest on taxes that he didn't even know he owed. Floyd knows full well what he owes and the IRS has negotiated with him to lower what he owes just so he will pay. Not remotely the same thing.Comment

Agreed i'm not in anyway trying to down the fans i'm just saying this is how it is and thats why I do not blame fighters for taking the actions that will make him the most money.Comment

Not saying its the same I agree things are waaaayyyyy better than what they were back then. I really think though that Joe thought that by being a good american and being of service to the government and the american people that he would be taken care of. I believe that because when he was in the military service he was continuing to spend money like it was still rolling in and even borrowing to continue spending but that is just not true. And it is still not true in today's society.Comment
