    Benn vs McClelin

I dunno how many of you saw this. It was a number of years ago in England. It wnet 10 rounds with McClelin (Who almost KO'd Benn in the 1st) taking 2 consecutive knees and stayin down for the count on the 2nd.

he then walked to his corner and sat down.

since that day he hasn't walked or talked and is said to be blind.

he sister takes care of him. cuts his food and feeds him and such.

does anyone know anyhting about this. like what happened to him?

He's pretty much in the same state his family look after him and so on and he's pretty much disabled.
There is a fund you can donate too to help with his healthcare and stuff (i think), not sure what it is tho

You have been a member since 2002 and have 12K posts and you are asking if anyone here has seen Benn v. McClellan?

Scap I think he might be from the MMA boards.

The McClellan story is very sad, the fight was your typical euro dog fight a lot of hitting behind the head which I believe caused it.

McClellan currently lives in IL and his health is about the same and hasnt really recovered but financially wise he is more unstable.

All of his money is gone and noone even reaches out to Gerald.

Tragic story, I pray for him everyday.

Supposedly Gerald had really damaged his head during sparring for the fight againest a Heavyweight fighter. He saw one of Don Kings doctors (which was paid off) and he let him fight with severe brain injuries. After the brutal fight with like you said rabbit punching aswell, it did so much more damage to his brain that he became in the state he is today. Sad story defintley

              Are you dumb?

"your typical euro dog fight" WTF are you talking about? Firstly, this wasn't a European boxing match, this was the first time that two WBC champs had ever faced eachother. European boxing sucks because of the lack of aggression, they fight too fairly and their styles are too upright and textbook, they are boring and fair and within the rules. Black Londoners such Benn, Eubank etc are not European style fighters, they are what you'd called 'American style' fighters because they are not upright and they move side to side, plus they are black and not white.

As for the rabbit punches causing it, that is the most ridiculous claim to how it caused Gerald's injury. Have you got any idea just how hard Nigel Benn punches (he doesn't need rabbit punches to do damage that's for sure!)? Have you got any idea just how awesome Gerald's chin was? You do realise that McClellan should of been knocked out at the start of round two and many times over just in that round alone right? Let alone a further eight rounds of withstanding Benn's punches. At one point, Benn was 22-0 with 22 KO's (most of which in the early rounds, some of which in the opening seconds!), that was when he was a brawler..and he switched into a brawler again against Gerald. At a nightclub once he punched a bouncer so hard that he knocked his nose from one side of his face to the other and the nose was literally hanging off, he's also punched a guy in the street so hard that there was a huge lump hanging out of his forehead and he was out cold for an hour. If the couple of little rabbit punches Benn threw caused Gerald's injury then why didn't they cause the 40+ other opponents of Benn's brain damage too? ..because Benn always through a couple of rabbit punches in his fights. At the end of the day McClellan is lucky that he got out of the fight alive, because if you stand in front of Nigel Benn with no defence for almost 30 minutes you are commiting suicide. That guy Benn could whack like no other.

Technically, it was Gerald's chin that caused him brain damage! He walked through Tommy Hearns' best right hand in sparring when he was 16 (with no headgear!), he walked through Julian Jackson's right hands. Gerald had a sickeningly solid chin, and so he had no right to withstand so many of Benn's shots that each of which would usually see guys crumbling in front of Benn left, right and centre.

I did hear about him killing dogs and that was horrible, but I would never wish him to get hurt that bad.. no fighters desevres that. He just should have been punished another way for that dog thing he had going on.
