WBA junior welterweight champion Amir Khan is likely going to fight the winner of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz rematch on the tentative return date of December 11. The Marquez-Diaz rematch takes place on July 31 in Las Vegas.
Khan's trainer Freddie Roach told philboxing.com that Amir will knock out both Diaz and Marquez without a big problem. He would rather see his fighter take on WBA interim-champion Marcos Maidana and use that fight to set up a unification meeting with Timothy Bradley.
Viewing their last couple of performances, Roach thinks Marquez and Diaz are both way beyond their best and would rather see Khan in the ring with Maidana. That fight is not available until Maidana clears up the ongoing legal issues with his manager.
"He’ll knock both guys out! They’re both washed up. They’re over the hill; Amir Khan will knock both guys out. I really want to fight Maidana next, but the thing is it’s just not available yet but we’re trying to build that fight a little bit, then I want to fight Timothy Bradley. Devon Alexander is with Don King right now and since that’s non-negotionable we’ll leave him alone," Roach said.
