I don't consider it that effective a style. It was the best thing for Tyson, but there aren't many boxers who I see being improved by it.
It does seem to be less successful in the lower weight classes. I'm not sure why this is, possibly because if you fight a larger opponent, you are probably better off being defensive than aggressive. People can name Duran and Pacquiao as examples that disprove the theory, but those two are/were exceptionally good fighters. Aggression relies upon power, punch resistance, strength etc. which are less effective against larger men. But defensive tactics rely more on skills and technique, which remain the same as you move through the divisions. The peek-a-boo style isn't reckless of course, but it is aggressive even if it does include a strong guard and lots of head movement.
Part of it may be that Tyson wasn't really that much smaller. People often think of height when discussing size, but that can be misleading. People regard Tyson as small, but Mike weighed 221 when he won the title. To put that into perspective, Ali (then Clay) was 210, Foreman was 217, Holmes was 209.Last edited by Clegg; 06-29-2010, 10:34 AM.Comment

There was a cruiserweight named Naseem Deem who kinda fought like Mike, even squared up like him. He had only 4 professional fights according to boxrec.
I've seen him fight a couple of times on the MSG tv network, but I doubt there would any footage of him fighting on the internet.Comment
