I like Cotto but I still refer to him as a four time "titlist" rather than a four time champion. The same goes for all the titlists that were never undisputed and never unified.

He has only had over 30 fights even though his resume is somewhat decent and he's already a gate keeper at 30 years old just about. He needs more impressive wins like over Martinez or Williams before he should get in in my opinion. No win on his resume stands out as overly impressive. Sorry, it's just my opinion. And Cotto isn't the only guy who I don't think deserves to be in the HOF like a lot of other people think.Comment

Stop mentioning titles as if they mean something.
Cotto's quality wins should be enough to get him in the HOF, even if it's not on the first ballot.
If you're gonna have Torres and Malignaggi there, I would add Judah, Bailey, Foreman, and Maussa to that list.Comment

I think when people bring topics like these up, personal emotions flare up. I think Cotto is a classy guy, and has a heart of a lion, but do i think hes a HOF at this point is his career? No i dont. Now in 2 years and continuing to regain old form, my stance will most definitely change.Comment

Cotto & Hatton in IBHOF...It would be a shame if he did not get in. For the past 5 years he has been on the short list of big stars in the game. He also has a very impressive resume.
It is those big stars who keep the cogs oiled and keeps the sport alive. Can you think of anything more important than that?
Same with Gatti. Of course he was not the best fighter. He was however one of the most exciting fighters who ever laced up a pair of gloves and he kept the sport pumping with his massive popularity.
It is guys like that who deserve a special place just like Floyd and Manny. The HOF is more suited to fighters who made a real difference and promoted their sport, just as much as the greatness of their abilities.
