Andre Berto: Unifying with Zaveck sounds like a good plan.

GL: It looks like Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora could be fighting next, I know Jan Zaveck was in the mix, so who's going to be the opponent and who else is under consideration?

Andre Berto: "There's a few people we're looking at. Mosley is still in the talks, the IBF champion is still in the talks, Cotto is in the talks. I have a few options and I'm ready to come back as soon as possible and I'm trying to climb up that pound for pound ladder."

GL: At what point does unifying the titles with Zaveck become the top priority?

AB: "It sounds like a good plan. Most likely that's what would happen, but we're going to have to see. I know that beating a big name is going to open a lot of doors so we'll have to see."

LOL if he fights this guy over Mike Jones I will laugh. Both Zaveck and Jones are unknown, but at least Mike Jones isn't a tomato can. What is having those two titles gonna do anyways? Both are paper titles, so its not gonna make him any more popular or worth more. I say fight Jones, then next year fight the Bradley-Maidana winner. Those are the only acceptable fights at this point, unless he moves up.

I think its too early for Jones to fight Beto.

At the absolute least it could lead to him unifying.

      Sanchenko has Shanes old belt.

Berto would wax Zaveck and Sanchenko then he'd hold 3 belts at 147...

Only one left would be Pacs.

Why must we let the sanctioning bodies hold our sport hostage?

Instead Berto should pretend that Zaveck and Senchenko don't exist until they at least fight one C level fighter in their careers.

I see what you mean. But Bertos options a 147 is limited. There is no one there to fight. Might as well tak out the "champs".

As a Slovene-American I would love to see a Slovene fight on HBO in Zaveck. Even if it would be the most brutal ass-kicking HBO has ever televised.

I would love for this **** to happen.

One positive thing about that is it brings the welterweight divsion closer to one champion. Undisputed champions are rare these days.

Jones isn't a kid anymore. He's been in the sport for about 5 years (less than a year shorter than Berto), is older than Berto and he's faced some of the decent lower class WWs. Its time for him to fight a higher class opponent. And HBO is pushing for that fight. If Berto beats him, he'll have a skilled opponent on his resume instead of tomato cans, former champions years past their prime and smaller guys on his resume.

And as I said, picking up two paper belts isn't gonna get him anywhere closer to a shot against Pacquiao, Floyd or any elite fighters aside from Mosley at this point. And he's demanding a 50/50 split against Mosley, so he isn't getting that fight.

I don't mind him unifying the titles. Him doing that might make him a more viable option for Floyd, Cotto, Mosley, or Pac or even P-Will? Maybe...
