Should he fight him if given the chance? Yes. Jr has wasted too much time living off his name and beating so so fighters. It's time for him to step up. Would he win? No. Duddy ain't much. He's tough but not that good. That win alone didn't prove to me he can beat Cotto. But I'm down if the fight gets made. Lets see what Jr really has.
Is chavez jr ready for cotto??

That's my point exactly, he has 40 some fights under his belt already how many more does he need to be ready. I feel the underlying sentiment is that he will never be ready or more appropriately, be able to beat Cotto. If this is the case, then so be it but how many more fights should he have then?
You say he is green but I just can't see how a guy with nearly 50 fights may still be considered green. You are a big Dirrell, Mayweather, and Williams fan right? Chavez has more fights than all of those guys but they are legitimate top level fighters at this stage.
I can see that the level of competition is lacking but experience wise, he has even more fights than Cotto, lol. I can't agree with the logic but can agree that he needs to step up the comp to better prepare himself for Cotto.
**He is like 28 or something as well right and been fighting since he was a kid so He has to be near the best that he is going to get at this pointComment

I have not watched JCC Jr in a fight yet where I could say anything like WOW, this kid has real potential. He is just lacking period. He does not do anything that will carry him against the better fighters.
While he looked solid last night, he looked far from being anything special. He looks more to be fringe contender status.
I'm not one to hate on a fighter, and I don't hate jr. I just do not see it in him to be champion caliber unless they pick very carefully with him.Comment

That's exactly the way I see it. You can see if a fighter has something that will take them to elite status. And Chavez jr doesn't have it which is why he's been carefully matched his entire career.I have not watched JCC Jr in a fight yet where I could say anything like WOW, this kid has real potential. Yup a special fighter needs an it factor. Some special ability that can give them an advantage. It can be any combination of good defense, speed, reflexes, footwork, power, accuracy, toughness, heart, along with good fundamentals.
Jr seems to have heart and some toughness, but even they can be questioned due to the caliber of opposition he has faced. He is not the puncher that his KO record suggests. I just don't see him rising above and beyond from what I have seem of him. Now he can still get better, but they had better not put him in with the wolves yet.Last edited by deanrw; 06-27-2010, 05:43 PM.Comment
