Trainers get to much credit, Boxing isnt like football or basket ball where a lesser team with a better coach can beat a team with the opposite make up. In boxing spare stylistic mismatchs and lucky punches, the better man almost always wins. Trainers dont do much to affect the outcome.
With that being said, Roach is a great preparer. He analyzes fighters and find weaknesses extremely well. Hes also as of lately a hell of a match maker, see Pacs career. What Roach does best though take what a fighter is best at, and make him better at it.And the things they are worse at, make them decent in those areas.
The Mayweathers are also great at preparing for fighters. Yeah they claim to never watch film or pay to much attention to thier opponents style but its clear that they do. Floyds never seem clueless or lost about anything he has had thrown at him. Remember DLHs comeback fight against Mayorga? Has he ever looked sharper than that? Had he kept Sr as his trainner for the Floyd fight we may have seen a totally different fight. Given a fighter with the right tools, they can transform him into a force.
Roach is more decorated but they are both good in my opinion.
