The guy did infact cheat when he used steroids to heel his injury, so he should have to work for another shot.

If anyone can beat Ruiz, I clearly give them my respect. That man is unbeatable.

Sac-I understand that but I Toney has always had problems with his weight and his poor dieting, eventually the poor eating habits and purging will catch up to you. Toney has been blessed because it hasnt happened yet.

Mainly the fact that everyone else is so bad.

Toney (motivated and in shape) is a viable top Heavyweight in this current state of the Heavyweight Division.

I don't care how old Holyfield was, it was impressive the way Toney broke him down and stopped him.

He beat Booker in every round and made him take a knee, and did this with one good arm.

He took the Ruiz fight on 5 weeks notice and was clearly out of shape, yet still thoroughly beat Ruiz in the last few years. Just look at the trouble Rahman had with Ruiz, and look how easilly Toney was able to counter Ruiz, spending little to no energy.

No one outside of Jones has clearly beat Ruiz.

Toney's defense, ability to counter, and over all ring savvy make him a top 5 Heavyweight in the current state of the division.

            hmm

No one has already beaten Ruiz in the last few years but Jones. Toney can't go to that list because the fight was a NC, and rightfully so (and I was rooting for Toney but that's just his own damn fault).

Anyway, to answer the initial question:

Toney is not such a good heavyweight. He is good by today's standards, compared to other heavyweights, but yes, Toney BELONGS at cruiserweight. He looked superb there.

However, there is more money at heavyweight and more chance for exposure and recognition. I don't think Toney will be able to unify the title because Byrd (even older) is still to slick for Toney and Klitschko is just too ginormous (if he ever fights again that is lol).

            So, to summarize:

Toney is a top 5-10 heavyweight, and probably can get a belt. He might even get Ring Mag's number one spot if he really WORKS and TRAINS hard, but it's a lot to ask for a guy like Toney at his age to beat Klitschko.

toney's got perfect infighting, counterpunching, and technique. he used to have good power and speed, but now that hes 36 and a heavyweight, those are gone.

he beat ruiz but was stripped because of roids. he couldve won without the roids IMO. the only guy toney cant beat is vitali klitschko. VK's power and reach would be too much for toney.

I've seen Toney in person training and sparring. The man has boxing skills, period. He can outbox big and small guys and make boxers ineffective. He doesn't even hit the smaller guys hard to make the point he owns the ring because he straight won't get out of the ring until he leaves or you beat him. I heard he does get beat but rarely and when he does he gets really ****ing mad and you better watch out or leave.

I think his biggest weakness is speedester with fast hands and feet that can avoid his range so he can't counterpunch effectively. If you stay in his range he will beat you. Easier said than done. All the slow heavies today can't do that except one, Byrd.

As for today's heavies, they are of low quality but Toney would have been a decent fighter in any heavyweight period because of his combination of defense, counterpunching, ring instincts, and great stamina.
He's not quick but the guy has done thousands of hours sparring and knows what to do against different fighters. You see him in the ring and he's so relaxed like a fish in water. Against Vitali, all Vitali would do is jab and they would land on occasion. He would miss all his bombs and once he gets tired or winded, Toney will come in and test that weak chin.

As for the training. Look at Toney at the middleweights or light heavies and he has never been that tone or ripped. Once he trains, he trains as hard as anybody but he has a bad diet and during off-regiment has bad habits. Plus he talks too much smack and that takes away from training and focus. They guy can talk smack nonstop. Don't get me wrong, he's ready for 12-15-20 rounds of fighting irregardless.

People Actually think this lil 5'9 midget will beat Vitali?? 6'7.........Tell me how?? Tell me how he would hit Klit enough to beat him?? And Toney couldnt Hurt Ruiz with all those Right hands what makes u think he would hurt Brewster or Peter...IMO Both of them would walk right through him...The only Toney is the true WBA champ cuz Ruiz suck but the only other title holder i can see Toney beating is Byrd only cuz he dont got power..and he will box...but other than that he will never become undisputed champ...
in this division toney is a top heavyweight. Ruiz may be boring but he is no push over. Steroids or not toney beat ruiz. his speend and defense allows him to compete at such a unnatural weight for him. Toney would only have trouble with someone like byrd and vitali(becuase of his sheer physical advantage)..But i feel that toney could beat vitali

Toney beat Ruiz. Yes the official result was a no contest but in the ring Toney clearly bettered Ruiz, and did so out of shape.
