I agree to an extent, but you can't argue the difference in Cotto's game when you watch the Marg, Mosley, and Pacquiao fights, to his style in the Foreman fight.

He looked like the Cotto of old, who IMO was better than the Cotto of new.

Cotto early in his career was much better than the Cotto we've seen over the last 2 years.

I mean we all know Cotto is a master at cutting off the ring, and he has always displayed a great jab. That's all I could come up with.
he actually was going to throw more right hands in that fight but he hurt his right shoulder in the 2 round. that was one of the things he was working a lot with emmanuel. miguel is always recognized as a left handed fighter with a great jab and great left hook but emmanuel is working on developing his right hand so he can use it more.

Cotto would have kept more of his own money, that's about it.

I love Steward but Cotto won because he fought a lesser fighter.

In hindsight people overrated the Santos win just cause Santos had beaten Margarito. In reality Santos was out of shape and weight drained and made Foreman look better than most anyone else in boxing would have.

I didn't see an improvement in Cotto, or we didn't get to tell because he's simply just a better fighter than Foreman.

I did notice him not tucking his chin and leaning forward as much, and he rocked side to side a bit to mimick Foreman's movement..

His right hand might get better, I'll look for that He did hut Foreman with the first right he landed too...

With time though, Steward will tighten up some things. Because he's obviously a huge upgrade over his past trainers. I have respect for Envangelista, but he took Miguel as far as he could take him, and Santiago was more or less a B version of his Uncle.

Agreed. Cotto only has problems with guys who bring the fight to him and put him under pressure. After seeing Foreman's complete lack of firepower and physical strength, I think this would have been a safe, easy fight for him regardless.

Cotto let the fight come to him, he didn't get all macho, and I think Steward had a lot to do with that.

Steward is not gonna develop Cotto's repertoire, but he can help him fight smarter, and I think that's the key.

A guy like Pac, I don't think Cotto can ever beat. He just doesn't have the physical attributes.

But a guy like Margarito, I think Steward can help Cotto beat cause Cotto just needs a few tweaks in his game plan, he has the tools to beat Tony.

              +1

Rounds 1-6 of theyre 1st fight.Cotto was displaying a heavy clinic.

Cotto needs to fight someone who can take advantage of his flaws, to see if Steward has done anything about them. I honestly have been watching the same Cotto fight for most of his career, with the same flaws. @ 140 he would get rocked because of his lack of defense but could recover and win. at 147 the damage he would take became worse and worse, specially against volume punchers like Pac & Marg. @ 154 against a solid ****er with a good output he will suffer more damage unless he improves his defense. I hope Steward can fix this, cause i do enjoy watching him fight.

I don't think it would have looked any different. It takes several fights for a trainer to have any real effect and a fighter that is a finished product can only change so much (especially if their heart is not in making a change and Cotto doesn't seem like that kind of guy that likes to make changes).

Really I need to see Cotto pushed to the edge to tell if there is any difference at all, because bad habits always have a way of turning up at times like that so it is then you will see if hiring Steward means anything.
