It always bothered me that in a sport where people try to beat each other to death there can be ANY association with religion. Very opportunistic.

I liked when one of the leeches who runs Pac after the Hatton KO wouldn't let him celebrate but rather violently gestured commanding him to kneel down in his corner and pray

"First of all Larry, I would like to thank God because without him none of this would be possible"

You just can't pay any attention to it. If anything try to find the humor in it like I do. I respect religion and stuff, but I really find it funny when Sam Peter interrupts Jim Gray to sing a song about Jesus.

Everything related to religion or any supreme power annoys me, but I just love boxing so much so I just ignore it.

Maybe not so much the name itself, but more the fact that I hate the display of religion, that his name conveys.

I dislike his bowing down and praying in the corner and his use of the sign of the cross on his chest as well. I’m disliking what I hear, when he praises the Lord or whatever…

This thread is not about Ward and what he does or does not. It’s not about me disliking display of religion, because I’m no different than most other northern Europeans. We’re not really too keen about it and probably we not too keen about religion all together.

But what do you think? Is it cool to change your name, because you decide to become a ******? Is it cool to pray in ones corner before a fight? What about boxers having to state all the time the gratitude they have towards God and what he has given them.

Why even box if you leave it all in the hands of God.

Let’s discuss it and maybe even get some names of boxers who were strongly religious.
a lot of time when andre is prayin, hes talkin to his dad and i like that some fighters are religious .

For many athletes, religion and their god are their sole motivations for them to achieve everything that they'eve done in the sports world. Why not let them thank what has motivated them to come thus far. You wouldn't have a problem with them thanking the dollar bill for motivating them, you shouldn't have a problem with them thanking their god.

As I stated, it's not about me. Disliking it isn't the same as having a problem with it, which I don't. But we're discussing it and your post had some valid points :-)
