Byrd was all about fighting Toney after James beat Ruiz. They had a date for July/August.

When Toney got the suspension, Byrd backed out and said he had no interest in fighting Toney.

The reason Toney wants to fight Vitali is simple. He's got the Ring belt, and is the most hyped fighter in the division.

There is no way you can attempt to slight Toney for targeting Klitschko over Byrd. It makes sense from a money and prestige point of view, as beating Vitali would see James end up with the Ring and WBC titles.

Now that Vitali appears to have no interest in fighting Toney, the Byrd option is being revisited. Byrd can be enticed into taking the fight, because King co promotes Toney, and can make the purse worth while.

In the end, if Toney fights Byrd and wins, he gives himself more amo to get Vitali in the ring.
Vitali offers a fight to Toney, Toney declines offer, Vitali moves on to other options, Toney agrees to lesser terms than Vitali's offer... Vitali is a coward for not taking Toney fight.

Toney offers fight with Byrd, Byrd declines for lack of interest, Toney looks for other fights, Byrd accepts fight, Toney still looks for other fight..... Toney is a coward for not taking the Byrd fight.

It is very simple. The point of his article is to anger Vitali into a fight, I just see it as Hypocritical, and leaving Toney open for a rebuttle. Once again, I do not think Toney is ducking Byrd, but if you say Vitali is ducking Toney then Toney is doing the same thing to Byrd.

Toney isn't enough of a draw to demand a bigger purse, that's why he's agreed to take the low end on a split.

But he is enough of a draw to ask: why wouldn't Vitali fight this guy if he (Vitali) would make a bigger purse than he would in almost any other figtht?

A Toney vs Vitali PPV is the biggest money fight at Heavyweight (not involving a Tyson freakshow element).

I really don't think there's any denying that.
Well, I agree with you if it's true that Toney's camp wants a 35/65 split. I think that is something Vitali should be able to live with. I was mainly responding to those who say he wants a 50/50.

        That's utter non sense.

Bottom line: Vitali doesn't have an opponent signed yet, and the Toney fight is available to him at a 65-35 split.

It is also a fight that would be several millions more in his purse than a Maskiev or Brock fight.

        It couldn't be more simple.

All you're doing is trying to twist things to counter argue somehting that really can't be argued.

If the Toney fight is available to him at a favorable split, and is one of the top money fights out there for him period, there's no reason he shouldn't take it.

I agree Vitali should take the fight, never disagreed with that. I am debasing Goossen's acrticle and only that. Goossen's own words for why Vitali is a coward can be said directly to Toney. You can check my past messages to where I say Vitali loses credit if he does not take this fight, I have no problems with that. I am just shaking my head at Goossen, if Toney does get a belt and the haters turn there attention on him, arctilces like this will be ripped apart every other thread for months

That's why I said that's really a moot point now.

Goosen called Finkle to say they'd take the fight at 40-60 (not 35-65).

But in the end, like many have said, this could all be part of the negotiating process.

I hope to hear they can work it out.

              2) Toney's suspension is up in August, and he has a fight date of Sept. 24th, the same date Vitali has

First, the 35-65 split was offered AFTER Toney was suspended. Of course Goss sweatened the deal, he had to because his guy was no longer the big draw. Toney is a cheat.

Second, Vit's team is simply waiting to see how Toney performs when he's clean in September. Seems reasonable?

If Toney is clean and still ready to rock, Vitali should take that fight.

Too bad it couldn't just go to a purse bid. We'd get a great King PPV.

As a genral little rule everyone should be careful when they discuss fight negotiations...****, is it really as simple as taking Finkel or Goosens rhetoric and then drawing a line in the sand and saying this is how it is-this is how the negotiations went/broke down?

We no **** about negotiations and just because one promoter says something in ********* that does not make it law. Im not defending VK at all but who knows what the **** he and his camp are doing or thinking...they may have their heads up their asses for all I know and VK may be a scared little ***** or they may have some brilliant plan to get the best deal...

I dont ****ing know...but I do know that we will find out and right now those of you speaking as if you know for sure what the deal is are setting yourselves up for 1) looking like you knew what you wee talking about or 2) looking like a know it all dip****.

Doing this long enough is certain to end in both scenarios so good luck with it this time around.

In my opinion Vitali should take on Toney..yet this is from a fans perspective. Vitali has a lot more to lose from this match up and his handlers know this. The fight would be the best heavyweight fight in sometime and boxing fans all over America would line up to watch it. I'm not saying Toney is the second coming of Iron Mike but he does have enough skill to beat Vitali or give him one hell a close fight.
