  • Comments Thread For: Andre Dirrell: I Have To Get To Andre Ward First

Andre Dirrell sat ringside in Oakland's Oracle Arena on Saturday night to watch good friend Andre Ward retain his WBA super middleweight title with a dominating twelve round decision over Allan Green. Dirrell praised his friend after the fight, but the two close friends will now become enemies for a few short months. Dirrell is scheduled to fight Ward in the third stage of the Super Six Boxing Classic on September 25. [Click Here To Read More]

I see it playing out like Zab Judah vs Mayweather.

I think Dirrell is fast enough to evade Ward, and to counter and hurt him.

However, there needs to be a competent referee who will stop Ward from holding.

The venue could be decisive of the outcome. I see this as an even match if Dirrell's good showing against AA was due to him having matured. If he returns to the negativity he had against Froch he'll lose big.

Agreed Dirrell is probably the fastest in the tourament.Ward while fighting good hasnt really faced an opponent who has tested him in the super six so far Mikkel was lacklustre and Green seemed to fall apart although i think Wards gameplan really shocked him.The fight is probably is probably in Wards hoemtown again which is ridiculous so the ref is more then likely going to let him hold

what I don't get is fighters fighting against Ward.

Why don't they unleash one blatant foul and get a point deduction? such as a low-blow or intentional headbutt. I know it's not honourable but Ward is not an innocent party. It's worth it just to make Ward think.

I know Carl Froch would do it and probably Abraham too.

When did fighting on the inside landing punches considered holding? Last night, only Alan Green was holding. For dear life.

I do agree that last night it was mostly Green holding, which totally confused me. I was thinking, "Why the hell is Green holding Ward? Ward LOVES that! He should use a different strategy!". However, Ward is a notorious clincher... it's sickening really. He's a mixture between B-Hop with all the clinching and Evander Holyfield using that head as a battering ram.

I'm intrigued to see Ward vs Dirrell, however I do question how much their friendship will effect the quality of that fight. I know they both say 'this is business, and we'll put our friendship aside for business' (and yes, I know they're professionals etc. etc. etc)....but these guys are very good friends. Anyone who saw Chris Byrd vs DaVarryl Williamson might have an idea what I mean. That was the worst fight I have ever seen, and it was a title fight.
I sincerely hope it does not effect the way they would normally fight each other had they not been friends. I'm certain we'll be able to tell if it does
