WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (22-0) convincingly warded off the Allan Green (29-2) challenge to retain his title via a shut out in the scorecards and remain undefeated to advance to the semifinals of the World Boxing Classic Super Six Tournament.

It was a one- sided exhibition by the talented 2004 Olympic gold medalist that put into question Allan Green’s choice as a replacement for Jermain Taylor in the said tournament. It was obvious that Allan Green was more bark than bite as he could not support his pre- fight pronouncements of dethroning Andre Ward.

I was routing for Green in this fight but I've always felt he was vastly overrated. Tonight he proved that not only is he overrated but he lacks heart as well. I hear rumors of a health condition he may have...well then the fight should have been postponed until he's well. Fighting when you're ill or have a condition that's not suppressed or under control...well results in a effort like we saw tonight. I don't believe any medical condition had anything to do with Green's abysmal performance however.

Green has long been seen as a power puncher and a dangerous puncher. Well the guy's only got a 60 some odd % KO ration so I've never quite understood what all the hype has been about. He's fought low level and mid level competition and won. Now he's playing with the big boys, talks the talk, and come fight night doesn't walk the walk. Hell Green doesn't even show up for the walk. Green's performance tonight was just like the one Joshua Clottey's turned in against Pacquiao. Green's made similar excuses in the past so tonight's excuses were predictable and useless.

Allen Green isn't as talented a boxer as Ward but thought he would at least be a live underdog and try to pressure Ward. He threw so few punches tonight he should be ashamed of himself. Green was horrible tonight but I have to give credit to Ward for stinking up the joint right along side Green. Ward has skills no doubt but I believe as soon as he faces a big puncher that constantly applies pressure they're going to walk right through him. Ward only looked good tonight because Green made him look that way by playing the role of stationary heavy bag tonight.

I really like Green's personality and his trash talk but after tonight I can officially declare I'm no longer a Green fan. Kessler's got more pop that Ward does and he's busier and I believe Kesslers's going to stop Green in their fight.

In all honesty I would really like to see Showtime remove Green from the tournament. It's obvious that he both doesn't belong in it nor does he want to be there. Replace him with someone who's got heart and comes to fight. What a joke...one of the worst fights I've seen in some time.

Excellent post, I agree with you on pretty much all points. Nothing more really needs to be said about Green and his effort and his all too predictable excuses.

On the last point Showtime is really in a bad spot. It's going to be hard to get anyone to replace Green who is any better because the reality of the situation is that whoever replaces Green faces the daunting task of either knocking out Mikkel Kessler in Denmark or being eliminated from the competition after their only fight.

An average fighter will jump at a chance to fight on Showtime against Kessler for a career high payday, but the management of any up and coming fighter with a bright future would be foolish to throw their fighter into this competition under such circumstances.

Looking at the rankings there just isn't anyone who jumps out who would be willing to take the chance and would at the same time be some kind of upgrade from Green.

Kessler and Ward are pretty lucky with how the cookie crumbled in that they get to face such a weak opponent.

Froch and Dirrell, out of all the fighters, truly have much more difficult paths to attaining their needed points because they have no matchup with Taylor-Green.

Instead of "I Felt Extremely Weak, I Overtrained"

Green should have said "I Felt Extremely slow, and Overmatched.

I am tired of boxer trying to make excuses for losing. If you lost you lost. GTF! Green got his ass whoop and thats it. **** happens! I not a punk because you lost. Just take your loss like a man.

at least he has a heart of a sore loser/winner... good you're still in for a big fight next, green. you better win or put up an incredible performance, or all credibility is lost until luck ever strikes again.

anybody who has ever had a boxing match amateur or professional will be able to relate to this feeling, its hard to ut your finger on it, but overtraining can put a serious damper on your performance. I hope he bounces back.

Champions League Of Boxing. Champions League Of ****! They both dissapointed me. Green did not do anything. And Ward is more boring than the Klitschkos. Someone says that Ward is the new king of sm. I say, he is the king of ****.
