it is ways you can stop someone from Clinching you and no it is not illegal especially when you are the one dishing out the punishment, it becomes illegal when you are getting pounded when you grab and hold on and don't want to let go, when the Ref said "get you hands out" Ward did exactly that, a lot of it was not even Clinching, Ward just did a good job penning him against the ropes and Green sure didn't do much to stop it
Hopkins been using that style for YEARS, it is the way they use it which allows them to get away with it because they are not GRABBING AND HOLDING ON, they control your position, release, move their head around and gain position again
a lot of guys just don't understand WTF they are watching so they ***** and complain about it because they want to just see two unskilled sluggers stand in the middle of the ring and throw wild punches until someone goes down, sure that is entertaining but if it different styles of boxing other then just thatLast edited by sicko; 06-19-2010, 11:09 PM.Comment

So sticking your head under the opponents chin and pushing up (basically an upwards headbutt) to lift his chin isn't illegal?Comment

Guarantee that this guy used to slag off Hatton as a mauling, wrestling, holding and hitting chump.
I must admit, it is very funny now now to hear fans that would have shat on Hatton for any form of clinching, even though it never got anything like that bad, and yet it is now the new best thing and they have always liked it.Comment

You must be joking. There was nothing to be learned there other that if you're ever in Green's shoes you have to pivot to get the other guy off your chest.
If you wanna see a tutorial on inside fighting, watch Castilo/Corrales or Rafa/Izzy 1 2 and 3.
Thats real inside fighting, no holding necessary.
Castillo, who is a BRILLIANT in-fighter, almost NEVER held onto an arm or a glove of Corrales's while punching.
Both hands were always free to punch.
Vazquez same thing. Always available to punch.
With WARD, you have a guy that COULD be a great in-fighter, but he is SAFETY FIRST in my opinion. He would rather punch with only one hand then risk getting hit back if he tried to punch with 2Comment

Considering the damage Ward infliced early on while using mainly one hand or the other, he could be devestating if he used both.
But The way he fought inside tonight was definitly illegal, as well as ugly and not as effective as he could have been (although obviously it was very effective.)
If he takes some risks, he prolly gets the stoppage tonight. At the same time, maybe he gets knocked out. so tought to blame himComment

But what Ward was doing was holding onto Greens left arm and hitting him with his right (or vice versa). THAT has got to be illegalComment
