Yep...
Thats why he DIDINT fight Cotto he wanted to keep his belt.Comment

You're telling me that Williams was a bigger money fight than Cotto was?

Margarito gave Willie a shot out of straight up principle. He didn't wanna lose the belt he worked so hard to get.Comment

I don't think you understand how HBO works (I try to, but I don't really either). If Bradley really is serious about fighting Paul Williams, then I've got to give him props for that even though I still think he's ducking Devon Alexander. But the thing I don't understand is I think Williams has even less fans than Alexander and he's bigger and brings no title to the table now.
The difference between fighting Alexander to fighting Williams is more than a few hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It's not a coincidence HBO offered 2 million for Pavlik and Sturm to split and 4 million for Pavlik and Williams. Or the licensing fee for the Williams-Wright fight. Paul is probably one of the most paid HBO fighter that doesn't (can't) go on PPV.Comment

Reading comprehension problems Jack? I said the Williams fight was Margarito's biggest payday at that time in his career. Show me where he ever made that type of money before? And Margarito faced Williams to avoid being stripped like I said earlier. So stop lying about him taking the fight "based on principle". That's a lie. Next time do your homework.
A dispute between Top Rank and the managers of WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito has left the boxer's short-term schedule up in the air.
Top Rank announced on Jan. 29 that Margarito would fight WBA champion Miguel Cotto on June 9 in New York if Cotto successfully defended his belt against Oktay Urkal on March 3.
But Margarito, reticent to be stripped of his WBO title, agreed last week to make his mandatory defense against unbeaten Paul Williams (32-0, 24 knockouts). Goossen-Tutor Promotions president Dan Goossen won a purse bid to promote the fight, bidding $1.5 million.
That came after weeks of campaigning by Goossen, who promotes Williams, to get Margarito to fulfill his mandatory defense. Goossen repeatedly pointed to Top Rank chairman Bob Arum's complaints that Margarito was the most avoided fighter in boxing and yet Margarito was passing on his mandatory challenge.
Arum had agreed to pay Margarito $1.8 million plus a pay-per-view percentage for the Cotto fight. Under terms of the purse bid, Margarito will receive $1.2 millionComment

Find where I said the Williams fight was a bigger fight monetarily than the Cotto fight. I never said that. I said it was his biggest Paycheck at that point. And that's a fact. Margarito was going to get the Cotto fight regardless(Arum, top rank). It's not like Arum was going to match Cotto with Williams. Margarito took the fight for the large payday and to avoid getting stripped. What part don't you understand?Comment
