    Boxing World Cup

From what I understand of the boxing world cup Sulaiman is proposing....it would not be the same as the world cup events golden boy has done in the past matching fighters of 2 specific countries. It would be a full on pro version of the olympic tournament for national champions and regional belt holders like the nabo, nabf, opbf type champions.

You guys can knock the wbc for being leeches but I think it would be a wonderful idea to see these types of fighters compete on an international stage and fight for instant world rankings.

exactly! i posted this already and ill post it again for all thoes who knock the man, i have a little inside info, the man is sick and does not know how long he has left. he is only tring to give back to the sport that he loves more than any of you can understand and to the sport that gave him everything before he dies. how do i know? because i work for him, and say what you want but its not about the money because he knows he cant take it with him. that is all

I'll reserve my judgementof don jose. But this would be a great platform for these fighters to really test their worth, and gain instant fame, credibility, and world ranking that they otherwise would never get because of mismanagement or lack of opportunity.

I'll tell you right now some of these national champions or regional champions are better than some of the guys ranked in the top 10 of any given division and yet we've never heard of them.

it is already in the works, and if all the partys that i know are interested get involved it will be good for real boxing fans who want to see good fights with good fighters that dont command big money and have a legion of nuthuggers that know nothing about real boxing. plus when you add a national pride twist to it i think it will be that much more interesting especially if the fighters arent well known

If legitimate fighters were involved, major tv networks in multiple countries, and it was promoted right it could be excellent.

My gut tells me it will be lesser known guys, at very best Showtime broadcasts, and poor promotion...

Well I for 1 am very much looking forward to it. Definitely a bigtime opportunity for fighters to make a name for themselves.

It's not about networks and promotions. We're talking about a platform for some excellent yet unknown fighters to make a name for themselves and gain instant credibility within their division even if the money is not yet there.

Imagine a featherweight tournament between the brittish commonwealth champ, the japanese national champ, nabf champ, mexican national champ, and opbf champ.

You've never heard of any of the fighters and yet they're all legit and at least 1 of them is bound to be better than some of the fighters currently ranked in the top 10 by any sanctioning body in the division.

It'd be great but if no one in the US (besides us hardcore fans) are talking about it won't really mean much overall. Sure it's cool and I'd be all for it. It just seems things like this get way too much hype on their impact overall for their sport.

It also seems to give legitimacy to the sanctioning bodies. I'd rather see good boxers than the WBO Southeast Tokyo Interim Bronze Champion against the IBF Northern Alaska Ruby Belt Champion. If we see these type of fights (which I'm worried we would) it wouldn't prove they are any better or worthy of facing anyone at the top.

It seems like a weak version of the Super Six, but that has one big weakness: Lucian Bute.

Its not super 6 format though. it'd be olympic style single elimination tournament format.
