It's a big difference wheter the tape is on the skin or on the gauze. That's the exact point.

And how do you know that it made no difference? You cannot know.

I personally don't know, which is why I phoned some people who would know (fighters and trainers) who couldn't tell me of any differences.

I know for a fact that it's illegal to put tape directly on the hands over here and I'm quite surprised that it's allowed in some states for the reasons I gave in the previous post.

Using too much gauze or tape is far different from using a foreign object/materials.

              This is really quite simple.

I don't know where people got the idea that "tape directly on the skin" is the factor for creating a harder punch. It's about how much tape is actually applied to the fist and the method in which it is applied.

If you put pack on enough tape and gauze you will get solid weight around your fist that in turn stretches and thins the glove out from the inside, further making the glove more solid than it already is. It's not rocket science, it's just a clever way to turn boxing gloves into clubs. This was a serious offense by Tito when he first got exposed, but I think since he quit boxing immediately after people just kind of let it go. But back when it happened it was a serious offense.

Now just recently, Juanma Lopez complained how the New York State Athletic commission wouldn't let him get his hands wrapped that way for the Matagwa fight while saying he's seen Trinidad have it done in Madison Square garden before. And didn't roach forbid Lopez's camp from coming into the fight with Penalosa with those wraps? In both of those fights Juanma looked very average with his punches.

Here's the old link to the Juanma interview, it's since been deleted but you can still find it on google if you use the cache feature.

                  (Translated)
"I had to protest because the commission that use is seemed to that of Tito Trinity. We throw him a little gauze, cover and segumos bandaging. The agent that was attending the bandage, said that that was not thus. I told him that Tito fought here many times and they accepted it,. The last time I was with Tito when I fight with Roy Jones and did not there were problems. Because if for one and not for other", added.

Like I said, it's not rocket science, or magic. It makes perfect sense why Lopez would depend on that type of hand wrap. It's because it's effective.

Your hand being wrapped with tape on the skin does make your punches harder. I've known this for years, my old trainer back at Fort Drum would not allow us to wrap our hands like this. I've fought guys that have wrapped in both ways, the tape on the skin does more damage. You wonder why there are some states that forbid this, and you wonder why there is so much controversy over this when the trainer catches the opposing side taping like this.

Margarito is a cheater, got caught, and after lab results... confirmed, and suspended.... What more do you want????? Mosleys' easy whipping of Margarito removed all dought that Tony cheated!!! Tony's refusal to rematch Shane cements it. TITO never cheated.
