Steward knows that Cotto will get his ass handed to him against Floyd that's why his name was not in the equation. Floyd would BY FAR be Cotto's biggest money maker but Steward is being real and looking out for his fighter.
Floyd isn't where the mega money is because GBP and Top Rank would have to split profits. Arum also doesn't get double the cut which is who runs the show and there is no way Arum or Cotto make as much money fighting Mayweather. Please tell me how you know what Steward is thinking, have you spoken with him, read minds? Its easier to make those fights, there is more money in all three of those fights than is to be made with 1 Floyd fight. JCC Cotto wins, Margarito Cotto has a solid chance in winning and if they finish with Pac, and a Marg win Cotto may have his confidence back and beat Pac. Which then sets up a trilogy possibility, Floyd might bring money to the table but he is not going to touch anywhere near that kind of money.

I also think while that fight is hsppenening this FALL, COTTO should go after PACQUIAO @ 154 and then fight the winner. What you think? MAYWEATHER wants respect from the world and a fight with the highly skilled MARTINEZ would do it. COTTO wants to regain some luster on his name, what better way to prove it then beating the best pound for pound fighter in the sport.
I would love to see PBF/Martinez. I think Floyd would outpoint him if the fight is fought @155. The PBF camp doesn't like the numbers presented so far so I think we might be seeing Martinez/Williams next then PBF in against the winner. Cotto needs to settle in with Manny Steward with a couple of fights then Cotto/Pac would be a great rematch but to go right back in in November would be a little too soon. One or two more good confidence builders to allow the Manny Steward tutelage to set in then he will be ready for Pac.

Steward just wants big paydays, I doubt if he really cares that Cotto will get smashed again against those killers.

I like the names thrown in there by Stewart but not in the sequence they were written.
I would go with JCCJ (or Berto), than Margarito and pending of the outcome and performance, then go after Pacman or PBF to finish his career with a big payday, unless he pulls out wins on these fights, if so, he can continue fighting.
This will allow Cotto to learn a bit more from Stewart and Stewart from Cotto (get used to each other).

On a side note and this is just my Opinion and would like to see what others think about it,
I believe that, due to the controversy surrounding Margarito, doubts on whether he used or not plaster against Cotto, the great Mexican-Puerto Rican boxing rivalry, the significance for each boxers careers being involved and the fact that it was a closer fight Pacquiao-Cotto, a Cotto-Margarito II will create more expectation an revenue for Cotto than a Pacquiao rematch not to mention that he will have a better chance to win.
I say this knowing the magnitude and the great fan base Pacman brings, but due to the results of the 1st fight, the occasional boxing fan will take a Pacman victory for granted.

current Cotto beats current Margarito at 147. 154 might be a little different.

But if Cotto can keep the fight at a distance with the Jab, he can frustrate Margs.

easy bet. Cotto wins the rematch.

Both are winnable fights for Cotto. Now that he actually has some world class experience in his corner, we may see Cotto evolve to another level of fighter.

                    Here's the proof:
Floyd will fight Cotto if the fight with Pacquiao falls through and Cotto starts having more success at 154. Look for a couple more wins from Cotto and the Floyd fight will be back on everyone's must list again.
