He means he enjoyed the actual fighting, but hated the politics and bull**** involved with the sport.

Hopkins needs to be put out to Pasture. There is no sense in him fighting on. Same with Joe. Joe was losing his edge when he retired. His reflexes and Speed were beginning to diminish. His hands have been wrecked for years. That would be magnified more now.
