I would love for Cotto to get redemprtion on Margarito, but maybe not yet. he should fight a corey Spinks or Chavez Jr., why not? he's fought big fights and bloody wars throughout his career and at this precise point more than ever he should fight a fight of lesser risk. it gives him time to gel even more with Emmanuel Steward, time to heal those bruises and cuts from the past wars, and let Margarito fight another fight vs a more established oponent like Angulo to see exactly where he's at, and depending how he fares then Cotto if he's looking like his old self should go get him. All the other fighters have done it before, Cotto did not have to give margarito a fight immediately after beating Mosley, he should have let Margarito fight a rematch against Clottey based on clottey's injured hand, or fight Paul Williams who he lost to. And mayweather said no to a Cotto fight before the Marg fight because Cotto did not bring enough to the table which is pure bull. Cotto has a huge loyal following in P.R. and the North East. but we saw the hipocrasy anyway since mayweather fought Zab and even worse Baldomir. I know Baldomir had a belt, ut didn't he say he's a prize fighter and the belts mean nothing, that he's all about getting paid. so cotto should look for easier avenues for atleast 1 or 2 fights, desevedly so in the hopes of regaining old formComment

well written, for all that can be said about us Puerto Ricans, many in the Mexican community seem to envy us and its sad, you see it even in sports. I remember when Marquez fought Mayweather recently, I had a fight party like always and we were all saying Marquez was Boricua or we were all Mexican, but we were all rootin for him to pull the upset, but from my own experience you know how many times they've rooted for the other opponent, but not because of dislike for our fighter or that he might be less superior, but because he was from P.R. and that is just a sad thing. the rivalry between P.R. and Mexico is great, exciting and it should be kept at that.Originally posted by xpsm24 View PostComment

if there wasnt a licensing barrier i would say that when it happens, make it in atlantic city to give cotto some home field advantage. cant happen in new york because things may get out of hand as far as the fans who might think margo cheated in the first fight.
reasonable split might be 60/40 for cotto because margo wants/needs it more.
new corners for both also make this much more interesting.
the thing here is that margo might have more options at 154 than cotto because of size...cotto vs maravilla, perro, pwill, cintron might not be very appealling to his team cuz of size difference, while margo already fought/sparred with all of these dudes.
more than anything, i think arum really wants this fight. you can tell because even though cotto says hell never fight margo again, arum keeps talking and mentioning the match up....when it comes down to it, when cotto recieves the figures for all of his options the best one money wise will be margo without a doubt.
(wild card point here would be that emmanuel steward thought he could beat margo with cintron, he now has a better fighter to try and do it, so hopefully hell be in cottos ear a bit)
