can he be the best? probly.
can he be the greatest? possible, but not likely.

the world recognizes the absolute GOATS (greatest of all time) as sugar ray robinson, joe louis, and muhammad ali.
sugar ray robinson is famous for being so damn perfect.
joe louis is famous for his power and mean streak.
muhammad ali is famous for saying and proving that he was the greatest of all time.

floyd mayweather is going to have to do a HELLUVA lot to even be compared to louis, robinson, and ali. and the way the world regards boxing right now, floyd's chances are very very slim. hes already 28, and he still hasnt proven himself to be the absolute best yet.

hes got a LONG LONG way to go to be the best ever.

god what i would love to see is floyd vs. wright. that would be such a technical match but the weight is to far apart. i honestly think if mosely gets his **** together he would put up a great match for floyd. so many possibilities.

Floyd arguably has the most polished skills but he still needs to fight the top guys and possibly clean everybody out, then I think he can be mentioned with the all time greats. I mean let's not overrate him. He was favored to beat Gatti. He beat a man who has been known to have suspect defense and boxing ability. He needs to fight beat some of the best guys and move up to 147 and do his thing there.

If he can, that will be an amazing feat. I mean to be at lower weights, he beat some great fighters in Castillo and Corrales but now that the spotlight is on him he really has an opportunity to make his mark. Hatton, Judah, Cotto and others are waiting.

You need to see him fight more before making a judgment call like that. I say he could definitely be the greatest ever, and we'll probably know for sure in a couple years even though no boxing "expert" is going to admit it. The problem with analysts today is they are all too biased. As long as Floyd is a "bad person" outside the ring, they'll never admit he's the greatest. But we'll all know the truth inside.

the best ever is taking too far, of this era is to TBD but possible, he is the most talented, he would have to wipe out the remaining "top" 140lb champs (cotto, hatton) and then go up to 147
and make put and exclamation mark on his career by defeating the top dogs there, which is possible but he's gonna have to crack harder at 147 to do it and can't afford to have his brittle hands break down on him cause someone like margarito will walk right through him.
