Is Floyd Mayweather the best boxer ever?

I think he's really good. I've only seen him fight one time, and that was against Gatti. He's really ripped, and moves as if he were performing in a ballet. So smooth. Is there anybody out there that can compare?

regaurdless it was a good fight but i dont think he can be considered
greatest right now hes got an exscellent record undefeated
and is semi young 28 i beleive hes still has a great career ahead of him
and has all the means of being one of the greatest
i wish him luck and i hope he continues to entertain as well
    as he did against gatti

technically (IN TERMS OF ACTUAL SKILL AND TALENT), he is one of the best of all time...

but greatness goes beyond talent and skill...we just have to wait and see what he does if a Hatton gets him on the ropes and bullies him into the corner...or if he faces Zab and Zab's quickness matches his and he no longer has that advantage...we need to see what happens if Margarito catches him and drops him with a wild but hard haymaker...

there are a lot of things...

the Corrales and Castillo fights were pretty close to 50/50...but his talent alone and based on styles made him the slight favorite

He isnt the greatest yet..he still have some big fights ahead of him. Depending on what happens in those fights..will go a long way in determining his place in history. Hes definately one of the best to come along in a long time..he doesnt have a loss on his record..(though he lost to Castillo)

He may have the talent but he needs to continue to start beating some other greats to become the best ever. Remember that Harry Greb beat Gene Tunney who was one of all the all best light heavies (Greb was a middleweight). That would be like Mayweather moving up to welter and beating one of the all time greatest welters. Zab is nothing close to great so even beating him won't prove much.

Floyd may run into the same problem that destroyed RJJ's chances of P4P greatness: a lack of fellow great opponents with which to build a resume. Robinson and Greb were fortunate to live at times in history where more people were boxing and the talent and skill level in the sport were all around higher. Floyd needs to at least match the records of Greb, Robinson, Tunney, Armstrong, etc. before he can even be considered a top ten all time great. Talent is not enough.

In today's boxing world, those records will never be matched. If he can go like 60ish with no losses, then he certainly can be considered great. Hell, if he can win another ten or twelve fights without losing, he can probably be considered that. The thing is, he has to fight Hatton and Cotto. Whether or not he will dominate is not the question, it's that he has to fight the best his division has to offer, or he will be forever seen as a ducker, even if his intentions weren't to duck, but to make more money, and there was more money elsewhere. None of what he has done matters if he doesn't figh Cotto and Hatton, at least, that's the way I think the fans see it.
