Ummm I personally think this fight sucks and is an insult to us boxing fans who want to see real contenders fight for the belts, not washed up guys fighting for their last pay check, i want Joel to win just to teach Amir a lesson... but i dont think thats going to happen, if this is just a warm up fight for i dunno, a showdown with one of the marquee names at 140 or even 147 then i spose i cant complain, its just annoying how hes gone from Paulie (who i like but is featherfisted) to another no hoper....
I think Khan should have moved upto 147lbs for this one fight, he could weigh-in at 143 or 144lbs and fight on the night at 150+lbs.
Good fights at 147 include:
- Said Ouali, Alfonso Gomez or Mike Alvarado.
- An all-British encounter with Kell Brook or Matthew Hatton
- Jan Zaveck (IBF Welterweight Champ)
- Luis Collazo (if his contract dispute was sorted out)
- Souleymane M'Baye (Interim WBA Welterweight Champ)
- Lovemore N'dou (IBO Welterweight Champ)
If I was Khan I would have tried to get a fight with Lovemore N'dou because I think it's a fight he could easily win. N'dou (47[31]-11-2) isn't a big puncher and Khan is the naturally bigger man (3 inch height and 3 inch reach advantage). Also Khan is much faster. N'dou isn't a bum though, decent fighter, not world-class though, would be a good name on his resume though.
The IBO Welterweight obviously isn't a big title so vacating it in order to continue at 140lbs wouldn't be hard. I'm sure N'dou would take the fight too because it would be a big payday for him and he could command a less lopsided purse split as he holds the title (e.g. 60-40, rather than the 30% that Malignaggi got).
