Margarito had a tuneup he needed after the layoff. He is still one of the biggest names from 147-154 and has a decent fanbase. His promoter believes he could factor in a big money fight and wants to cash in before he gets derailed in one of his redemption fights. Now that is basic boxing. Hey look, idealistically you're right. But realistically Margarito is a hungry fighter now and he's going to take the biggest offer he gets.

Yeah i don't think there is a chance that Margarito will try to cheat again but i don't think the punishment is severe enought for what he did. An example needs to be made.
What punishment? a years suspension from boxing in the US? Luis Resto was/is banned for life and served like 4.5 years. (even though he had padding removed and not plaster at the time). So i personally think they went easy on him

He will never be fully vindicated because you cant say without a doubt what fights he cheated in, and how many people careers he messed up. If he was cheating in the cintron fights he cost him a lot of money and could of possibly scarred cotto for life(even though I dont believe that cotto cant take pressure). But if he just cheated in the mosley fight I cant blame him, shane was coming into the fight roided up anyways, margarito was just trying to even the playing field.

You're a good poster, and I usually agree with you, but I don't think Margarito should ever be forgiven. What he did was awful. This sport is dangerous enough, and he put other fighter's lives in jeopardy. Any fighter who does what he did should never be allowed to fight or benefit from the sport they disgraced.

a year long suspension isnt "doing his time" considering what he was doing. It taints his wins, and career. He ripped that one dude's ear off, probably cheated. The punches that he landed on Cotto (in which Cotto clearly outlanded him throughout handily) battered him so badly it was almost certainly a feat of Godlike power shots or cheating. If he can rack up 5 wins against top 5 in his division/p4p opposition, CLEANLY without severely risking unnecessary/life altering damage to his opponents by CHEATING, then, we can talk.

He did his time and should be able to fight on but his last performance led me to think he had been cheating for a long time showing up seemingly featherfisted unable to get Garcia's respect and leaving him without a mark after landing alot of leather on him.

You and I both know, long before the Cotto fight, Margarito had many who didn't like him for whatever reason. After awhile, some had no choice but to respect his work in the ring, even though they still weren't fans of his. The situation just provided those who disliked him for whatever reason, more ammo to dislike him again.

A man fighting with loaded gloves is pretty much the worst thing you can do in boxing. It should equal the death penalty = never get to fight again.

**** Margarito, he got off cheap.

With the American public? Probably never... Americans will only forgive fellow American cheaters like Mosley who has not only been forgiven but also celebrated and showered with praise

Oh please. Cintron is one of the biggest babies in boxing. Acted his way out of his own fight. Acted his way to a draw.

We know how candy ass this dude is. Margarito didn't cost him money, Cintron cost himself money.
