Cotto's performance and his rematch with Pacquiao

Cotto looked better than I thought he would. His jab looked much better than it has in recent years, although it did lack the crispness that he had early on in his career (even in his pro debut his jab was super crisp and was thrown with pinpoint accuracy).

Cotto makes the mistake of leaving his left glove down and leaves himself wide open to eat right hands, like he did most of the night. He didn't properly defend a single right hook to the face that Yuri threw.

His footwork was superb and he cut the ring off as good as anybody I've ever seen.

He still comes off as a little gunshy on the inside, and doesn't throw the combination's necessary to be a real contender at 154.

Now in my other posts I have said that Arum set this fight up so Cotto could KO Yuri and win a title at 154, setting up a rematch with Pacquiao and an opportunity for Pac to further solidify his place in history by winning another title in another weight class. It kind of makes me sick as I do not believe that Cotto has the skills to beat Pacquiao and Cotto is being thrown into the lions den.

Why not just have Pacquiao beat Yuri? Simple - Cotto is a much larger draw and that fight will be much easier to promote.

So far everything is going according to the script that I speculate Arum has put together.

Now we wait and see if Pacquiao -Cotto 2 happens to prove that I'm right.

His footwork was a lot better, but Pacquiao would still wipe him out. Too much speed to handle. Cotto looked great in the first three rounds, but then couldn't keep up with Pacquiao. It'd be more of the same. Maybe not with Cotto realing the same, but then again it's not like Foreman was applying pressure so who knows if Cotto fixed that problem?

I think people play up the "Cotto is ruined" idea too much. Cotto is basically the same fighter he has always been: good, but not close to being in the same class as Pacquiao or Mayweather.

Rewatched the fight and I have to say although Cotto still had lapses in his defense that got him jacked a couple times, he looked pretty damn awesome against the naturally bigger Foreman. He was consistently active. His jab is much better but I imagine Steward can improve it even more. His right hand was used a lot more and looked strong for 154. He threw lots of combinations, more variety in his offense and he moved really well against a very speedy guy. This cotto is competitive against any fighter 154 to 147.

Fights happen, I think you're expecting too much credit, it's a draw, it's a good business decision...nothing more, nothing less - leave ol Bob alone, he's doing his job. Pacquiao asked for Mayweather, if it doesn't happen, and he wants an 8th title, who is he going to face? Martinez? A six footer in Williams? I'd give you credit if you predicted Pacquiao even consider a fight against a 154-pounder 5 years ago...
