Its a big deal when the possible opponents one chose not to face are the best fighters in that division.

compare that to pac who was thrown to the wolves by muhammad before he was ready so muard can make millions off of him.

The phrase latest & greatest describes the *****s. notice how a lot of them big up lil wayne as the greatest rapper or kobe bryant the greatest baller.

Ignorance & ******ity. 2 different things, but *****s have both.
If he had all that in the early stages why wasnt he getting the recognition and money that he is getting, now?

Floyd's style isnt going to sell the fight because people want knockouts and brawls so he had to start selling himself outside the ring. Peoples hatred for "Money" mayweather makes them forget that through the first half of his career he was "Pretty Boy" floyd a great boxer that was only known in the boxing community, just like mosley. He had to do something to change his persona if he wanted to make the amount of money that he thought he deserved. A lot of the big named fighters had their countrymen behind them for instance oscar and the mexican community, tito and cotto with the puerto rican community, hatton, pacquiao, etc. Floyd didnt have that because the african american community is not really into boxing like some other races. We are more into basketball, football, track. The hispanic community is more into baseball, soccer, boxing. White's more into football, baseball, nascar, hockey. So floyd had to tap into the black community more specifically he tapped into the hip hop community and anyone that knows hip hop knows that swag, ****iness and money is what drives the community so he did what he had to do. The only other boxers that really tapped this community were mike tyson and roy jones jr. Mike got them with his impressive knockouts, roy jones got them with his ****iness and tomfoolery(lol, taken it back) in the ring.

          What is legendery status?

Fighting the man at 130 a weight that man has never lost at and bludgeoning that vetren for a first belt.

Defending that belt many times taking out the top challenger on atleast 2 occasions (Manfready and Corrales) and a couple other future champions.

Moving up a class to fight the known best guy and having a close fight but fighting like a champion to pull the fight out.

Since some people disputed that fight giving that man a rematch right away and winning more clearly.

Move up another class fight a lefty former champion (who made a very ugly fight with Judah) get caught for really the first time in his career, then shaking that off and beating the piss out of the dude.

Going on to obliterate a loved champion who was on one of the better runs of his career.

Moving up another class to fight the former undiputed welterweight champ before fighting the real welterweight champ.

Moving up another class to fight an even more loved champion who had all the advantages and the much larger man.

Moving back down to fight a former welter belt holder and undeafeted champion from the class below.

Retiring from the sport and comming back like he didn't miss a beat in two fights, one which was against a skilled but smaller fighter but the other against a man many wanted to see him fight.

Now take into account that run is from 1998-2010, that is 12 years that kind of longevity in boxing is exceedingly rare.

Think about his career as you wish it matters not but there is reason to consider him very highly.

What definition of 'legendary' are we using here?

He has managed to establish quite a powerful presence in boxing history in his own way. And say what you like but he has assembled a ledger that most boxers would be jealous of even if he hasn't had any 'Thrilla in Manila's or whatever (yet). But I suppose if you're restricting the term 'legendary' to the absolute best of the best like Ray Robinson and those other twenty or so other names that occupy the furthest reaches of boxing accomplishment then Floyd doesn't make the cut as things stand.

We know that so much more will be expected of Floyd just because he's Floyd, and that anything Floyd does will be overlooked as if it didn't happen, and more will be demanded, and then overlooked as if it didn't happen again.

Basically, to these poor, unperceptive, dense people, Mayweather appears not to have faced adversity simply because he deals with adversity so well.

i think floyd has done enough to merit discussion as a legendary fighter. his defense & skill alone can be described as legendary. His resume might be another matter, but overall he's top 50 atg easily in my opinion.

You ain't just woofin'. Out of all of the innumerable men to ever lace on gloves and step in a pro ring, and Floyd is counted by many observers to be among the 50 Greatest of those men to ever do it?

                      And he isn't Legendary?

For these fellas, I'm just convinced, no reach or illogical conclusion is too far for them in their bitter pursuit of Ultimate Hateration.
