You may think Floyd will slow down a little moving up in weight, but the truth of the matter is.. Floyd will only put on a few pounds, maybe 153-154lbs.. he will retain most of his speed.

Martinez is fast for a 154lber, or a Middleweight.. no questions... but when in the ring with Floyd, you will see Floyd having the faster twitch like reflexes, and the ability to counter punch will all be Floyd.

Martinez makes mistakes and leaves himself open when he comes in to throw, those mistakes couldn't be taken advantage of from a fighter like Pavlik, but they will be from a fighter like Floyd.

    That's my $0.02.

i tend to agree with the bold..........Floyd didn't bother putting on weight to fight Oscar at 54......he will just train and eat until he gets to where he feels comfortable.........

If this fight happens at 154 I see it as a 50-50 fight. But if this fight happens at 160 I see Floyd losing. Floyd could actually be the underdog then. Last time he was an underdog was when he fought DLH, am I right?

almost all belts official and in this case it would be lineal (again)....no paper belts, cept the strap he won off Gatti.
Martinez has looked good because he fought guys with no defense in his last three fights.

Infact I cant recall Martinez fighting any fighter who is anywhere near the level of Floyd defensively or as fast, or as as a good counter puncher.

If Floyd fights him at Middleweight it will be his Fourth Linear title in his 6th Weight division. Impressive indeed...

no i thnk he was favoured in that one......though i'm not certain....i think the lowest price odds for a Floyd opponent in recent memory was Hatton....bar that you would prob have to go back to the Corrales fight......

Pretty much, I hope Martinez gets built up nicely because it would be a great win for Mayweather if the fight happens..

This is another example of how Floyd is being held to a higher standard.

Pac will not fight Foreman at 154 because he is "too big" (same size as Margarito, though, but that is for a different post) but will try and cherry pick a title at 154 from somone he has already beaten if Cotto is available. To Pacfans, this is acceptable.

However, Mayweather is expected to fight the MIDDLEWEIGHT champion while only weighing in at 152-153 or so. If he does not then he is somehow a ducker.

I hope the fight happens if Pac bails again.

And this is how it starts......someone in Martinez camp said they were option #2, people who want to see Floyd lose start nitpicking the advantages Martinez have over Floyd and talk themselves into thinking this is the guy, Floyd "maybe" doesn't fight him, then we'll have the new guy who wasn't on the scene 3 years ago now holding the key to legitimize Floyd's legacy.

My opinion has also changed. Originally I viewed Mayweather-Martinez as 50/50; either man can win, but I no longer see it as that. I see too much wasted motion from Martinez, so many instances where he doesn't punch and as Reed said, "Martinez takes rounds off". Mayweather's legs are gonna be the most important here, he's gonna have to violently pursue Martinez. Keep a high tight guard and lung in with the straight right hand. Similar to the right hand he used against Zab Judah.

As for their speed, I can't really say. Mayweather looked so much slower against Oscar then he looked for Hatton, Marquez and Mosley. That was also more due to the muscle Mayweather put on, I never seen Mayweather look that bulky before. So who is to say Mayweather isn't gonna put on that kind of muscle? Hopefully Mayweather learned his lesson. Anyway, It'll be somewhat competitive but I see Mayweather winning clearly. We also have to factor in that Martinez is probably gonna be the biggest opponent Mayweather has faced, I know him and Oscar are around the same size but Martinez has a 76 inch reach. We'll see.
