You completely miss the point.

Ali was forced to have a break because he refused to go to the military (later the Supreme Court ruled in Ali's favour because of a technicality).

The real alternatives were not "Break or No-Break" but "Break or Draft".

As you may know Ali was very illiterate and uneducated (he was bottom %1 of his high school class), thus he didn't pass the military tests. But later (as the war continued) they lowered considerably the military standards and he suddenly was eligible. It is to be expected that he would have been merely a simple soldier at the front.

Thus he would have possibly been killed in the war.
