Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Stripped of Middleweight Title By The WBO

BoxingScene.com has been advised that the WBO has stripped Sergio Martinez of middleweight title. Martinez won the WBO and WBC middleweight titles with a twelve round decision over Kelly Pavlik on April 17 in Atlantic City. The WBO handed down their ruling because Martinez has yet to make a final decision as to whether or not he plans to stay at middleweight. Martinez is still the WBC champion at 154-pounds, and at 160-pounds. The root of their decision was based on Martinez continuing to hold on to the WBC title at 154. The WBO has given Martinez ten days to appeal the ruling.

Didn't they just have a big get-together for him in PR with Valcarcel, a bunch of WBO Rican champs and even named him "super champion"?

Who is going to get the WBO tin belt now? Gary Lockett? It doesn't matter because Martinez is still the champ.
