but the same can be said about the doctor's decision in the LL fight
maybe Vitali would never have fought again and lost his eyesight
as for the Byrd fight, whether it was the right decision or not, VITALI STILL QUIT ON HIS OWN, IT WAS NOT THE DOCTOR DECISION NOR HIS CORNER DECISION, VITALI SAID ''IT HURTS TOO MUCH'', THUS ENDED THE FIGHT ON HIS OWN, WHICH IS CALLED QUITTINGComment

Here is the version of Peter who fought Toney and Wlad, to me the much better version than the one Maskaev and Vitali faced.
if Peter wasn't shot, I don't know how to call it, because the version of him that fought Toney and Wlad is night and day with the version that fought Vitali
he also looked shot when he fought Chambers
You fail to consider that Vitali is a helluva lot tougher than James Toney and the version of Wlad who fought Peter (when Wlad was still trying to gain his confidence back).Comment

"Shot" means a fighter is done, punch-drunk, chinny. Peter got outclassed by Vitali, had management problems, got uninspired for awhile, and has now pulled out of it -- lost weight, racked up a few wins. Boxrec lists him at number 8. A "shot" fighter would be headed inexorably downwards, like Barrett.

that doesn't mean he's not shot
we'll see how he fares against a top fighter if he ever fights one againComment

It's a good strategy. I fully expect Peter to make some noise again in the HW division. A fight between Peter and David Tua would be very interesting.Comment

I think it's the fact that both K-bros hardly lose a round as they beat people up that makes them distinctive and considered great. It's not really the opposition - which of course isn't their fault - it's the absolute domination. On a championship level we're often used to fights being competative for a few rounds before the better fighter pulls away, but with the Klitschkos we see them winning almost every second of the fight. Granted Vitali can't quite bring that anymore, but in principle he still is.
The catch is that we see them do it for longer stretches at a time because they generally aren't 1 punch KO artists (although Wlad certainly could be if he wanted to). If Foreman was that much better than an opponent he'd try to knock him out in a couple rounds and likely succeed. Wlad and Vitali take their time and make it a methodical beating. Still, that they are that much better than EVERY opponent in recent years, is pretty scary to think about. They're so far above their opposition that for their fans it's hard not to look at them without rose-colored glasses.
I guess the way I look at it is that while their resumes aren't quite ATG (through no fault of their own), the way they win gives them a decent status boost to replace it. It becomes a matter of whether you care about resume more or how they handle themselves in the ring, I don't think either way is right or wrong.Comment
