He had a torn rotator cuff that needed surgery, he took the right option in that fight, if he had damaged it further he may not have even got his shot at lewis

In an exclusive interview with *********, Maskaev claims that he'll fight whomever the WBC mandates though his preference is a clash against Klitschko. "I've been looking to fight Vitali Klitschko because we have to finish something that started when we were amateurs," Maskaev said of an early '90's amateur bout between the two future champions. "I stopped him in the first round. He's saying that he couldn't continue to fight because he had an injury. But the fact is that his trainer threw the towel in the middle of the ring and stopped the fight in the first round."Last edited by Tiozzo; 05-31-2010, 02:21 PM.Comment

My personal fave win of Vitali's was the Corrie Sanders fight, because it was a Pier 6 brawl.
You seem to have some hang-up about Maskaev that I don't understand.
I also don't think Sam Peter is "shot." He went into a slump after losing to Vitali but has pulled out of it. You are very ******* with your usage of the term "shot." Monte Barrett is "shot." Sam Peter isn't. If the Klitschkos weren't around, Peter would be at the top or very near it.
now your question : I think it is impossible for Vitali to get a signature/great win now (as I have said in another thread), because there aren't opponents out there who can give it to himWhich only goes to show that Vitali can't win as far as you are concerned, as he isn't about to fight his brother (nor should he). It was a very significant win because it is very difficult to be out of a sport for that long a period, come back, and be as dominant as Vitali was in that fight.

Here is the version of Peter that fought shot Maskaev.
if Peter wasn't shot, I don't know how to call it, because the version of him that fought Toney and Wlad is night and day with the version that fought Vitali
he also looked shot when he fought ChambersComment

you didn't get the nuance I guess....
the SMW division has a very short history
so being at the top of that division history is not like being at the top of the middleweight division history
if Calzaghe fought at 160 lbs and achieved similar things, he wouldn't be considered as one of the best ever in that category (hell no)
there is also a P4P perspective to being an ATG, and P4P, Calzaghe just dooesn't rate on an AT listComment
