  • Just watched the entire Chavez vs Taylor I for the first time...

What a fight. Hard to find another fight in which a fighter literally puts every bit of energy into it, especially when he's winning the way Taylor was. I think the ref made the right call to stop the fight, but damn, what a heart breaker for Taylor. I think if he would have lightened off the gas pedal just a bit after round 9, it would not have been such a difficult fight down the stretch. Your thoughts on the fight and the decision?

I agree. But you can't take the showman out of Taylor. He gave the fans everything they wanted. Philly heart!

You don't ever stop a fight with less than 10 seconds to go in the 12th and final round. I guess you 2 disagree with Limbrado Andrade lossing to Lucian Bute when he was clearly out on his feet and the ref did everything in his power to see to it that Bute got his chance to stay on his feet!! Both cases are a disgrace, screw Don King and Richard Steel

I think Taylor was basically out on his feet. He ought to know to respond to the ref, which he didn't do twice. Maybe King was behind it. I actually supported the Bute win by the way.

I still blame Lou Duva as I feel that Taylor was distracted by him being on the ring steps when Steele was asking him vital questions.

I also assume that Duva was involved in the decisions of Taylor's opposition and blame him for putting him in there with Terry Norris. Taylor moved up to WW and won the WBA title from undefeated Aaron Davis a year after losing to Chavez, but after that, struggled in a title defense against Glenwood Brown. Taylor was dropped twice and rocked several times. Then his management puts him in there with Norris.

            Steele fucked up
Chavez didn't have time to run across the ring and land again
I like the ref not stopping Vasquez-Marquez 3
Rafael was still in it on points, no time left for another punch
feel bad Taylor lost that one after a great performance

yeah, still ****ed that fight up. He was the premier ref at the time and he should know what the time is. Ofcourse you never really know but he knew that it had to be damn near the end of the round. Then, on top of the ring post they have flashing lights to signal that its less than 10 seconds in the round. How could a top flight ref miss that? Then you have a great Legend in JCC but you also have an undefeated champ in Taylor who fought for his life in that fight, literally and was winning. You dont stop no fight like that. Thats like him stopping the fight on Floyd against Pac in that same situation. Taylor earned a Champions right to finish that ****in fight.

To the TS, Taylor didnt respond to the ref because Taylor's cornerman jumped up on the ring and was giving him instructions. Thats why he turned his head to the side right when Steele asked him if he was alright. He was looking at what his trainer was telling him. Its just messed up but you dont stop that fight. You have to know its the 12th, you have to know the round has been going on for a long ass time so it has to be the end, and you have to be able to see the flashing lights in the corner. A bottom ref should be able to do that, let alone one of the top guys.

I even go as far as to say, what if there were 40 seconds left? I think Taylor still earned the right to have one more chance. If JCC drops him or hits him one time clean, then you stop it but that guy earned the right to be given another chance. ***** ass Steele

                  Where is:
                  Shawn Porter
                  Omar Henry
                  David Lemieux

Great prospects to look out for.
