That is barely a negative reaction considering Hopkins comments. I didn't expect National media coverage, I expected specialized boxing media to be more critic of those comments. If Calzaghe had made those comments he would be called a racist and a ****, at least.

I'm Ukrainian, I support the Klitschko's because of this very fact. They are my country men who represent us on the international stage. So is Ismail Silakh, who is not "white" he is half African, but he is a Ukrainian and I support him just as much as the Klitschkos. And if Silalkh fought a Russian or a Pole I'd still support him, regardless of the fact that he is "black" even though a Pole might have more "genetic" similarity with me personally, and I do have some Polish blood.

I am Ukrainian. Not a Pole, not a Russian, not a Serb, not a Slovak.

I speak a different language to all of the above, and have very little in common with the above listed nations. Our similarities are regional, thats about it. Same happens everywhere else.

When a Pole fights a Russian or a Serb fights an American I couldnt care less who wins the fight unless Im rooting for a particular fighter because I simply like him.

What do I care of a black American knocks out a "white" Serb or a Mexican American knocks out a Slovak?

This thread should have ran its course by now. Even the thread title is plain wrong.

I can understand nationalism to an extent. I support Finnish boxers because it develops the sport here if they are successful, not that I take any "pride" in other people's accomplishments. It's a non-issue really because Finland isn't exactly a boxing country. I do not feel any obligation to root for an European boxer over an American or a Swedish boxer over a German, only because I'm from Europe/Northern Europe.

Usually I'd rather stay neutral, but if I root for someone it's because of their style of fighting, not their nationality. I suggest other people do the same, but of course it won't be the case with everybody. It would be ideal though to just enjoy boxing itself.
