not everyone can be blessed with qualities that you listed in the op minus the last one obviously, boxing is not just about the elite level, you need the lower level guys to guage prospects, fill undercards, some of the unblessed talent wise boxers have produced some cracking fights.

Those medicore boxers at least have the balls to get in the ring and some of them know all they going to get is a pasting, but still do it.

            • Good stamina

Conventional Boxer: A boxer that sticks to the fundamentals and tries to set things up with the jab.

Unconventional Boxer: A boxer that eschews the fundamentals for a more dynamic approach.

Slugger: A roughhouse power puncher that likes to throw bombs, thinks the best defense is a good offense.

Brawler: Another power puncher, but one that shows more defensive ability.

Counter Puncher: A slippery, in-the-pocket defensive style fighter.

Boxer Puncher: A boxer that takes a conventional approach to setting up his big punches at medium distance.

Inside Fighter: A close range boxer-puncher that moves his head and tries to control the ring and work the body.

Outside Fighter: A stick and move fighter that focuses on keeping the opponent at the end of their punches.
A Joshua Clottey. A guy who just stands infront of you to take a beating. a sandbag is another word for that.

If we have learned anything by watching guys like Roy, Mosley and Judah is that while you can have all the physical tools in the world, at some point some one is gonna neutralize that and that is when your fundementals and boxing skills need to kick in. Those guys all disregarded having good jabs and set up punches and instead all of them lead wide with hooks etc.

As soon as Shane and Judah ran into technician or guys just as fast and athletic as them, they were fvkked. With Roy, I truly believe if he had an effecitive jab and a way to neutralize pressure he wouldn't lost to Glen Johnson. Once he reflexes and legs were gone, he was done as a fighter. Now look at b-hop. His athletic ability was gone a long time ago, but his technique, skills and fundementals were helping him win fights he shouldn't have won (Pavlik, Tarver, and other good wins he had late in his career).

With that said...every young athlete, in any sport, needs to realize and put a big emphasize on being technically sound becuase no matter who you are, one day it will be the difference between overcoming in a fight as compared to being dominated and knocked the fvkk out.

Remember kids, while athletic ability goes eventually, technique, knowledge and fundamentals will never go away.

                      Green K.

Finally a good reply. So Freddie is doing a good job making Amir use his fundemental tools like the jab more. Freddieliterally brought his jab back. I'm convinced, Amir has a great future ahead of him.
