AMIR KHAN has slammed boxing pundit Duke McKenzie for criticising him during ITV’s broadcast of his world title win last weekend.

The Bolton boxer wowed an American crowd for the first time with an 11-round beating of Yank Paulie Malignaggi at New York’s Madison Square *Garden.

But Khan, 23, was upset with former three-weight world champion McKenzie’s views.

Khan (left), who will this week decide whether to fight again either in Manchester or London on July 31, said: “The American TV network HBO bosses shook my hand and told me I’m a great fighter and very exciting.

“It is great to have them *supporting me but, on the other hand, we’ve got ITV.

“We gave the fight to them – but the commentary from Duke McKenzie was so negative. I don’t know if he has got something against me. I do what I do in the ring and he is going out there criticising me, saying I am ragged and sluggish.

“The thing is, people believe what the commentators say.”

Khan does reckon Britain’s WBA heavyweight champion David Haye should fight either Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko in America.

He added: “If David Haye went over there and knocked out a Klitschko he would become a sensation.”
So is this like Khan fighting his mandatory? Who is that again?

damn, when are you going to sort out your thread titles, man ? This is an article about Duke Mckenzie and the ITV commentary team, yet you pander to the idiots that are ruining this place by making this thread about one pretty obvious thowaway comment at the end.

I quite like the Duke, and I'd rather have his honest opinions as a former boxing champ than the sickening fawning over any British boxer that we have to endure from the the Sky team.

I have to say I totally agree with Amir. I was thinking exactly the same when I was watching the fight on ITV. I found that while Amir was landing some great shots and boxing smart, Duke was ignoring and not commenting on this, and instead praising Malignaggi, even though he looked like he was struggling and throwing some ragged punches on Amir's Gloves. His commentating in the fight did not give justice to Amir's fantastic performance that night, and it certainly didn't match up with how the judges were scoring the fight, and how others (including the American commentators) saw the fight. For one, with Dukes commenting you got the false impression that Malignaggi was doing better than he was, and so when the doctors appeared ringside to see if Malignaggi was able to continue, it didn't make sense. I think they should replace him, and bring in someone who can commentate on exactly what is going on in the fight. In this fight, Amir dominated Paulie from round 1, and Duke did not translate this to the public at home watching the fight.

Re ITV commentary - he's right, Duke was weirdly negative throughout. But not worth having a go, really.

Re Haye - do people bother to read the ****ing articles on here, or just spazz out upon reading the thread title?

I Used to train at Duke Mckenzies gym back in '06 and its true; the guy never had a positive thing to say about Khan; Maybe a little jealous of his success; i heard his brother was a bit of a Pakibasher aswell; maybe that might have something to do with the negative commentary lol

                  HOLD ON!!!!

Just because you give the fight to ITV, that means they got to lick you arse?

What is Khan on? I wish he would just shut up for once.

He really does sound like an idiot. Personally, I hate his Bolton accent. He comes across as a bit of a dimwit when he opens his mouth. Bit like an Asian Frank Bruno.
