And Charles beat everyone on that list who was willing to get in the ring with him, some of them multiple times.
In the mid to late 40's Charles fought tougher light-heavyweight competition than maybe anyone in history, and he was virtually unbeatable.
Charles was such a brilliant boxer during his time, wasn't he? One of the very, very best of all-time, in my opinion. The unfortunate thing though, there's practically nothing available on tape from his Light Heavyweight days (I've only seen a short clip of one of his fights against Bivins (?), I think it was). But there's plenty of footage available of Charles from his earlier Heavyweight days (no point in watching a shot fighter after Marciano was done with him), and you can obvious see his amazing talent.
Just for emphasis on how good Charles was, I offer this quote;
"Historian Lew Eskin rated him above Ray Robinson as the best fighter he saw in the 40's and 50's."
That's VERY high praise from someone who actually saw each of them fight during their time and as it happened.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense considering Moorer was getting outboxed and was having a ****load trouble with the best Light Heavyweight he faced during his time, Leslie Stewart.

Where do you have Charles all-time p4p? I could see him anywhere from 4-8 personally. My first 4 starts out with Ray, Armstrong, Duran, and Charles.

I haven't made one of those in quite awhile, so I'm not sure exactly where I'd place him.
My top four would probably be Robinson, Armstrong, Langford, and Greb (in some kind of order). After that I'd find a spot for the following guys somewhere in my top ten; B. Leonard, Duran, Pep, Wilde(? maybe), Louis, and definately the great, Ezzard Charles...Yeah, for sure he'd be included in my top ten somewhere.

*Edit to include Duran*
Have you ever done a top 100 p4p list? Man I tried slaving away at one not so long ago but I got to the mid 40's and just felt unsatisfied. I found myself questioning all of my selections and places since some guys were just so even for me I didn't no where to slot them. I also don't feel like I have enough knowledge about some of the older fighters to make even somewhat accurate choices about where to place them. Crazy stuff.

Yeah man, a couple of years ago I compiled and posted an all-time top 100 on another site. But it took me only a few hours to do that, and when I look at it nowadays, I'm pretty disappointed in how it turned out (actually I was disappointed in it right after I posted it). There were about 80-85 names on it that I'd probably still include today, but I doubt that I'll take up that endeavor again any time soon.
You end up splitting hairs all the way down the list, because it gets really hard seperating one fighter from another after awhile. No need for that really, but if you want a severe headache...There's the project to take up.

Yeah...I was just bored and had a good span of time in order to do it so I decided why the hell not?
Didn't you call out some guy for stealing another guys p4p list off of another site and acting like it was his? I remember that was hilarious.
