Pacquiao doesn't need "personality"...Floyd does.

He's a star in boxing and a hero of the phillipines. Not Asia as a whole.
Boxing fans look at his style the way he fights. Casual fans can care less.
My sister, who doesn't know **** about boxing except that you throw punches, watched Mayweather-Mosley 24/7 and got excited and wanted to see it. Why? Because of the **** talking back and forth.
My aunt who really doesn't know much about boxing, except Tyson, watching Mayweather-Mosley 24/7 and ended up buying the PPV. Why? The **** talking back and forth.
If you have personality you will sell. That is the entertainment business. Sports are apart of entertainment. Casual fans can care less about the athletes, they become interested by the persona of the athletes. Or the persona of a sports organization(team). Why do you think there are so many Raider fans? Manchester United fans? Why do you think Oscar Dela Hoya sold so many PPVs? Floyd Mayweather sells so many PPVs?
True fans can care less about a persona. But face it, 70% of the people paying to see these fights are casual fans.Comment

Im sure Pac has personality, its just hard for him to portray his real self to English speaking audiences.Comment

Nothing wrong with a fighter promoting themselves.
Ali did it, SRL did it, Hearns did it, Tyson did it, SRR did it.Comment

Lol, it doesn't matter. In the end it's all a business. If you want money, which Floyd does, you will put up that image.
Terrell Owens has an image, Brad Pitt has an image, Derek Jeter has an image, Roger Federer has an image, Cristiano Ronaldo has an image, Oscar Dela Hoya has an image.
In the entertainment business, personality will take you a long way. It's apart of the business. Whether as a fan, you like it or not. It's apart of the business.
He just doesn't have to try so hard. He just is.
And all the guys you mentioned, they actually deliver entertainment so I got no problem with them.
If they were like Floyd, they would hype the **** out of their "personality" and then lay an egg w/ their performances.
The public is only gonna be fooled so many times by this guy and judging by the reception and numbers to the Mosley fight, his luck may have already run out.Comment

and since when did a TV show make people go buy tickets & PPV?
Are you telling me that HBO sends out brainwashing waves through the tube to make people order Mayweather fights?

I agree with you. If it had not been for the 24/7 show, Mayweather/Mosley would have only sold 700K like Pac/Clottey and not the 1.4 million it did sell. However, without the tons of publicity over OST with Mayweather that immediately preceded the Clottey fight, Pac/Clottey would have sold 400,000 at most.Comment
