there is only one fighter where there is a legit case that Floyd avoided him......and that's Antonio Margarito......
Floyd hasn't avoided any fighter cept Margarito IMHO........
I believe team Mayweather expressed interest in a Cotto fight at 140.....Cotto and his team were smart enough to turn it down at that particular time (Cotto was/is much better at 47 than he was at 40). there isn't a legit case that either one ducked the other.......there was never any serious talks for a Mayweather v Cotto fight period, nothing ever got off the ground........so it boggles the mind that either ducked anything.......
- Supposedly Floyd ducked Shane.........we saw how that turned out.....
Who knows? It's a shame it didn't happen a couple of years ago because now it doesn't seem like it'd be as appealing of a fight given the way Cotto has been performing. Maybe with Steward, if he can turn his career around and utilize his boxing and things Manny teaches him more, he could build towards a fight with Floyd.
Really after the Mosley fight and in 2008 would have been the best time for them to fight, but really I think it would have been best case scenario if Cotto had BEATEN Margarito. Before that fight I'm not sure the fight would have been as big as if Cotto had taken on Tony and beaten him.
Why did this fight not happen? Cotto just came off the Mosley victory and prior to that was destroying everybody...Floyd just became a huge star with his victories over De La Hoya and Hatton...This would have been a huge fight in May/June of 2008...What happened?
mayweather always wanted to fight cotto he just doesn't like doing business with bob arum and you never once heard cotto say he wants a peice of floyd i remember cotto when he was at the 140 division was watching at ringside mayweather destroy gatti and both was with top rank at the time their both was gonna fight each other but bob arum said cotto was too "green" remember miguel is slow compared to floyd and easy to hit mayweather would of beaten him easy
