cool...now we got some REAL barbershop talk goin on in this one
I gave it to Ray for years.....until about a few years ago, I switched up....I think Hagler DID land the harder more affective shots and applied that pressure down the stretch that would've won him the fight in TODAY'S game!!....I think it was Richard Steele who said "the more you watch this fight the closer it gets"....man thats the TRUTH!!
I can't understand why Hagler didn't start off from the southpaw stance and just gave away early rounds....that STILL confuses me because he was waxing Ray when he southpaw'd up

Marvin wanted to give new dimensions to Ray
while Marvin put in work, Ray watched him while in 'retirement'
i agree that Marvin shouldn't have messed around but it was to try to throw Ray off
its a shame he never gave Marvin a rematch

I give it to Leonard. He did what he needed to do to put rounds in his favor. I remember watching the HBO documentary on the fight and Leonard saying as soon as he heard the tap that 30 seconds were left he would flurry to steal the round. Close fight though so I am not mad at anyone who thinks Marvelous won.

Leonard afterwards said that he was too crafty and smart, to fight Hagler again, which shows me that those who thought Hagler won, are correct.

Fight could have gone either way depending on what you like more from each fighter.
I do think Hagler started to slowly and gave to many of the early rounds away thus giving Leonard a slight edge.
But Hagler and his team made some mistakes there,he should have fought southpaw most of the way not the other way around and also the Petronellis should have pushed him on harder....I mean before the last round Pat told him to ''push a lil bit now we need a little more'' or something like that.
They should have urged him on a lot sooner.

My first time watching the fight. I had SRL winning by a good margin. I took up boxing and years down the line, I watched the fight again, a 3rd time, a 4th, etc..
..And I had Marvelous Marvin taking it each time. I must admit, my scores for Hagler wasn't as huge as when I scored it for SRL the first time. Shoe-shinin' are for kids, if I were a judge, I would've told SRL shoe-shinin' are for kids, it's not a skill
Marvin Hagler, countered nicely and landed the more meaningful punches.Last edited by King of Sting; 05-18-2010, 05:27 PM.
