And Tommy won the rematch. Clearly.
There was also a lot of speculation about Hearns over training because he came into the fight weighing only 145. Stewart acknowledged that "mistakes were made" partly because it was their first superfight. But I can't take anything way from Leonard. He fought a great fight that night and he hurt Hearns badly in the fight early (5th round) with a left hook. That forced Hearns to change his strategy and with success. He was outboxing Leonard. But Leonard showed a great chin and great stamina himself. The rematch was Hearns fight, I agree and I think even Leonard says, " I won the first, Tommy won the second. If he fought 100 times he would win 50and I would win 50"

I hold Emanuel Steward's opinion higher than yours, the man trained Tommy Hearns and still said RL would've beat him.

It was in Tommy Hearns' nature to fold under pressure. Ray Leonard was a special fighter, Hearns' just a physical specimen.
